Jack Black's 'Kong' 'lost weekend': His Ecstasy Freak Out

NEW YORK (AP) -- As if a giant ape weren't enough to get Jack Black going in "King Kong," the actor says he let loose one time while making the film.

"I had a bit of a lost weekend while we were doing 'King Kong,"' Black says in the January issue of GQ magazine. "Overall I'm very responsible on set. I'm not one of those dudes who come drunk to the set."

"But there was a lost weekend where I had a little time off and I did some Ecstasy and I went on a kind of crazy rampage and I started smoking (again)," he says.

"Me and another member of the cast, who will remain nameless, just running around, dancing around, drinking and Ecstasizing, smoking like a chimney. And then it was over."

The 36-year-old actor says he's since quit smoking and is on a strict diet. In "King Kong," he plays Carl Denham, a filmmaker who traps Kong and brings him to New York.

Black's other films include "The School of Rock," "High Fidelity" and "Shallow Hal."

btw, Jack Black was really really good in King Kong. you'll hate his character in it. kinda reminded me of the despicable Billy Zane character in Titanic, who was willing to barge in line past women and children while the ship was going down.

I've seen it twice now, and the second time saw it with 7 other people, and the thing they said first when exiting the theater is how much they hated Jack Black, because his acting as a despicable, greedy slime-ball totally succeeded. I liken him in King Kong to Billy Zane in Titanic. He was really good in this film.

Jack Black is a really good actor. He was great in saving silverman.

I laugh my ass off every time I watch that film. I forget how he was partnered with but those guys were hilarious playing off one another.

And as for his role in King Kong? Call it perfect casting. He was great. He must of taken ecstacy before some of the chase sequences in it :1orglaugh
