is pinnacle studio 9 any good for video editing?

it's free @ buy.com so it's probably not that great but if it really sucks i won't even bother because the whole mail in rebate bullshit.

i just need it for basic stuff like chopping full vids into clips. is it worth the hassle? or is there something easier and better i could just download? thanks.

it sucks, just use MS Movie Maker

Plus Pinnacle only likes to work with their own hardware, and even then you have to buy the right software for the right hardware. It's a pain in the ass

only thing i can say is you have the gayest nickname on all of gfy.

I use it to capture analog video but I suggest something like SonicFoundry Vegas Video for the actual editing.

Adobe Premiere Elements is quite good. You can get 2.0 from Fry's with Photoshop Elements for under $100.

I'm using Pinnacle 10 and honestly, it works fine for me. Granted... I don't do much "editing", I use it for more trimming the fat.

All of the videos on my sites were edited using it. It's fast and easy... definitely not pro gear, but I run amateur style sites so it's all good.

umm.. I've used Pinnacle 9 and it works fine. MS movie maker? now that's a fucking joke.Pinnacle is easy to use and is pretty good. If you want the best use Avid Express Pro.. Somewhat expensive, but is awesome.

although, Ulead Media Studio Pro 8 is way better then Pinnacle

Avid Express Pro? Have you used it before? There is no worse professional product on the market. The only thing Avid is good for is once you start a project in it, you pretty much have job security for the rest of the project. The only thing Avid does well is live broadcast.

I personally use Final Cut and Sony Vegas. My comment about Movie Maker was geared to "free solutions".

Avid.....geeze...what a piece of shit.

WTF are you talking about?

I've been using Pinnacle Studio for 4 years now for exactly that kind of basic editing and it has worked flawlessly every time without me using their hardware.

I'm currently using version 9.

I installed it on WinXP home built computer and started having windows problems. Everything cleared up after uninstalling the software. Editing forums led me to the problem, so i assume since other people were having issues and that uninstalling it cured everything that I wasn't alone in my frustrations.

Strange.

No offense meant but are you using low end hardware in your box? Usually the reason for building your own PC is to do it better but not everybody does it that way.

Just makes me wonder if it's a hardware conflict issue since it's specifically on home built boxes.

BTW, I use it on a VPR Matrix desktop. my Dell and Toshiba laptops, and a home built box is the main one I use for my heavy content projects.

I've never had a problem.

If memory serves me correctly it was an Asus P4S800 mb, 2.4MHz Hyper thread, ATI something dual head video card and onboard audio.

I use Pinnacle 9. It is easy to use and sometimes that is all you need.

Strange.
