If you were going to shut a paysite down, how much lead time would you give...

...affiliates and members? Assume the site is almost stagnant in sales and costing more to run than it's making at this point.

Discuss.

Oh boy...
I am afraid to guess.

Why not sell it;)?

Lycanthrope 12-26-2005 05:09 PM

From an affiliate standpoint, two weeks min. One month ideally. The two day - 1 week warnings I've seen of late are pretty shitty. Hell, I gave a one month notice to my accounts when I shut down my freehost.

seeric 12-26-2005 05:10 PM

i'd say a month too.

members and affils.

when jeff found god and shut down BA, he gave it a month.

Basic answer is the content is non-transferable according to the producer.

one month is a decent time... 2 weeks could be pushing it.

xNetworx 12-26-2005 05:36 PM

As much time as possible but no less than a month IMO.. hope all is well

mikeyddddd 12-26-2005 05:37 PM

As soon as your decision is final.

Papi Chulo 12-26-2005 05:40 PM

all I want to know is the paysite name!

INever 12-26-2005 05:40 PM

If sales are stagnant, 1 week. If booming, a month or 2 if you can.

beemk 12-26-2005 05:42 PM

why shut down at all? just tell them whats going on and you will leave the site up until all the traffic dies down but you wont be updating it. anything else and as a webmaster, i would think twice before promoting anything you had anything to do with in the future.

Far as I know anything having to do with me is fine, this is for a friend of mine who does not post on boards.

pornguy 12-26-2005 05:46 PM

As for the aff's. I would give them 30 to 60 days. But start announcing to the members right away.

newbreed 12-26-2005 06:04 PM

OK, since my ICQ has gone nuts and I have gotten at least one phone call already tonight, let me state that this has nothing to do with Arika's site. I am not in much if any control of anything having to do with her site anymore, I gave up my ownership in the company that owns the domain and copyrights weeks ago. This question is totally unrelated to anything having to do with her site.

Now, that being said, it looks like the minimum viable answer is between a month and whenever traffic and billing fizzles out on the site in question.

Thanks for the answers everyone, this is along the same lines that I was thinking as well.

woj 12-26-2005 06:26 PM

1 month+ is a safe bet... anything less and you will get a lot of bitching...

TheDoc 12-26-2005 06:42 PM

Need more info really...

If you are going to close the site & program, then members should be cancelled and the members area can close once the last member is done. Webmaster wise, once the last rebill is done and you can total up payments, you are done. Warn them first of course. After about a month you should be able to close everything.

Put a simple script to redirect the traffic back to the Referring URL
