So Who ISN'T Going to Internext? And Why?

I'm getting ready for travel to Europe. No Internext for me. That and recent surgery makes me think it may be best to heal completely.....

What's your reason?

martinsc 12-26-2005 12:56 PM

too far... ( i live in israel...)

Adult Site Traffic 12-26-2005 01:00 PM

Me.

I don't cross one toe onto US soil and besides, I don't want to be in a jet that flies into a building somewhere for the purpose of creating an oil war.

LOL

JD 12-26-2005 01:00 PM

came up too fast and I didn't plan for it.

No, but I would if I knew how. I have several million addresses I got in a trade one time, but I gave them to a friend in Johannesburg.

The reason is because at 7 PM on November 2nd, 2004 I vowed I was leaving and never coming back. At 9 AM on the 3rd, I called the Mexican Consulate in Denver and got the paperwork to retire here.

I have it too good here. We even have pavement with lines on the street, stop lights and all the pizza and fast food that is in the US in this "3rd world country", but it's all about half the price.

I have my own 24 hour security guards. I pay them 70 pesos every two weeks :pimp

My trash pick up costs 18 pesos a month, that's about a buck and a half. :winkwink:

If I get pulled over for just about anything, it's 50 pesos and get the fuck back in your car and leave me alone. They found a silenced automatic in my car and it cost me $200 pesos and I kept the pistol.

I hate everybody who'd show up?

Actually, the wife takes the daughter to visit Grandma and it's the perfect time for me to meet up with old friends there but I've designed and built some new software for the mainstream marketplace and the CEO's of 2 different companies was told about my software via a friend of a friend and one of them has tried to get ahold of me all last week so he can hear more about it - so we've set up a conferences via phone for that week and I need to be home for them.

One of the companies does over 400 million/year in sales and their top dog is trying to get ahold of ME!

The other company does something similar to what I'm doing and isn't as big as the first - but they move much faster and have alot of venture capital behind them and my stuff makes their stuff a stronger product and integrates easily into what they've designed.

I'm psyched, excited, nervous and scared all at once. If either of these companies says yes, 2 years of hard work will pay off BIG!

Hi Raven, nice to see you again.

I am still on the fence about going to Internext. Right now I'm weighing out my options, because I'm not sure how beneficial it will be for me to spend four days away from what I've got going on here.

My reasoning is, I have a full time job as a lead software developer (non porn) and I have a couple large projects we are rolling out at the beginning of the year. I am also in the process of revamping many of my sites for my personal company, and moving them to new servers etc. Taking up a large part of my time.

While I'd love to go down to Vegas and talk to people and spread the word on the free chris case, I'm not sure I can do anything this time around to help my bottom line, so I may not be there.

But, it might be just like August, where I decided at the last minute to take a red-eye to miami and go for it. That move helped me financially (I made a couple really good deals there) so I am still considering it.

A friend of mine was caught with a pistol in Mexico City and did 4 years. :(

costa rica

phoenix

Probono 12-26-2005 01:39 PM

I have decided to pass on the big shows and do a couple of smaller more productive shows each year. Webmaster access in Amsterdam was good, Costa Rica and the Phoenix forum are next.

2HousePlague 12-26-2005 01:44 PM

i'd say come, to judge from all the open doors

Sosa 12-26-2005 01:45 PM

Haven't went to one yet and only will if the woman goes along and we stay longer and get a few vacation days in on it too. That won't happen for a few years atleast.

That's actually exactly how I'm going to be spending this week here - researching both of these 2 companies further so I can gather more insight into how they approach business dealings (IE %'s they like to acquire) and weigh that against how much I'd like to retain.

I know the value of what I've built/designed and have prior business models that prove the concept (revenue/costs) but I also know that I can't do this alone and it would be in my best interest to partner with a company who has a corporate structure already in place with established clients/contacts/networking and can take what I built and include it into their business model versus going after venture capital and trying to build a company from scratch - though I'm not opposed to that.

Raven 12-26-2005 02:17 PM

All good reasons.

Vegas, to me.....well, I just love Vegas...I'm going to miss it, I know I am...

Too much travel this year for me and too much travel on the horizon with longer flights....damned good thing I bought that video iPod. Desperate Housewives never looked better...

I took it to Canada last week. It was such a nifty little device that amused me for hours....while I waited to fall asleep.

Who else isn't going?

And, why?

Money?
Jobs?

Not worth it?

$5 submissions 12-26-2005 02:26 PM

I can't make it this year. I'll be in California come February though. If anyone from Southern and Northern California (and perhaps AZ) wanna meet up and possibly do biz, hit me up.

Kimmykim 12-26-2005 02:26 PM

I'm going to Vegas later in the month to hang out with some friends for the weekend. No point in spending 2 hours waiting on a cab, having shitty service from bartenders when you can actually get to the bar, waiting forever to get seated even with reservations or dealing with the CES idiots.

:Oh crap and with the 3 shows going on at the same time pffffffff
Its going to be MAdness

Scott McD 12-26-2005 02:43 PM

Been there, done that. Twice !!

Not bothered about it this time round. Too expensive to make it worth my time...

CuriousToyBoy 12-26-2005 02:43 PM

If I had known about Sleazy's DR deal before I had booked that is where I would be going.

I have a terrible feeling that this whole dual show and timing is going to be one big cluster fuck.

Odds on this will be my last Vegas.

2c

Raven 12-26-2005 09:11 PM

I'm not surprised to hear these reasons...I've been thinking along those lines..

What are the estimates on the amount of foot traffic?

I had heard 150 thousand are expected to show..but somehow, that does seem a little bloated...

Still, I will hear the reports and then I'll have a year to decide about any more Vegas trips during Internext..

KK...it would be nice to just visit Vegas...

Gerco 12-26-2005 09:35 PM

Not going this year. Have been 4 years in a row. This year it's just not going to be.

1. I just got married and I would like to spend the time with my new wife.
2. Lots of work to do on the new house.
3. Getting to old for the late night party life. Vegas is great and I have always had a good time, but I shoot content and theres not a lot for me to shoot out there. Not that the talents not there, everyones just to busy or tired from all the other stuff going on.

I've met a lot of good people going to vegas, but you never have a chance to really talk with anyone as your always running from here to there. I like FLA better for that. Actually thinking of doing Cancun this year instead and get some diving in.

Those are my reasons. :)

Loki 12-26-2005 10:13 PM

"They" told me I am not allowed to go, I don't play well with others.

and by "They" of course I mean the voices in my head.

FlogTheLog 12-26-2005 10:16 PM

i am not going cause i dont got the money to get there, i live in Australia

Raven 12-26-2005 10:34 PM

Do you think money is an issue for those who aren't going?

I am also noticing more and more have full time jobs and are not doing this full time..

tristan_D 12-27-2005 02:14 AM

DutchTeenCash 12-27-2005 02:17 AM

Exactly, that's the main reason we won't be going this year. I LOVE Vegas and we haven't missed a show in 4 years. Actually I hate the fact that we're skipping it this year but I don't want to have to climb over people (Airport, cabs, hotel check-in etc.) or wait in line for hours to get a badge or whatever. Just too much going on at the same time :(

Trax 12-27-2005 08:04 AM

venetian sold out
all other good hotels sold out
crappy hotels too fucking expensive
avn are fucking morons
3+ shows at the same time = BRAINDEAD DECISION
too fucking crowded

Raven 12-27-2005 08:05 AM

I will miss you, too, Julius....

There's a whole list of people I only get to see in Vegas...and it was a very tough decision to make, as I've not missed Internext...well, except for one year, I think, back in the day...

Still...from what I'm reading here, there are job related issues, financial issues...other places to go...crowds to avoid...anticipated pandemonium....

And, all sorts of reasons, all solid..

So, who else isn't going?

RogerV 12-27-2005 08:48 AM

With the other shows its going to be a super huge Cock fest and I decided to only do tropical shows now for the exception of Phoenix forum and European shows. If it wasnt going to be so packed in vegas I would have gone.

main reason I have alot of shit i need to get done while its peaceful

See you all at the costa rica bash

FreeOnes 12-27-2005 09:00 AM

I have many reasons why I don't go this time. Just do a search and you will find them.

I used to go to CES early 80's ( at the time video was the thing and VCA, Western Visual, Hollywood video were the players ) and there was easely 150K attendants.

I prefered the much smaller VSDA in August ... but now I really have no interest in those events...

Those going, have fun :thumbsup
