I wouldn't take them if he paid the transfer fees and then paid me to place them on my servers, ($25 each) and paid my time to build stupid little websites that matched the names ($50 each) and my time to submit them to link lists ($50 Each)

lets see thats $140 x 59 and I still wouldn't take them

hahaha imagine the Type in Traffic he gets

twistyneck 04-03-2002 09:13 PM

Hyphenated domains *kick ass* for search engines. You'll never get a type in, but Google will eat that shit up all day long.

Slick 04-03-2002 09:15 PM

Hell, if I had a choice between one of those domains and the dead mouse, I think that I'd choose the dead mouse, ha ha ha.

Gemini 04-03-2002 09:43 PM

Slick you might get that mouse... seeing that its on the table, it MIGHT be someones dinner! :winkwink:

ihateastro 04-03-2002 09:49 PM

Has anyone bought that mouse yet? I don't want those useless as two tits on a bull domain names, but the mouse... sign me up. I have a gerbil I can't account for, but if I had a mouse... now there's a party.

Oh wait... he's dead? ah well... a little extra grease and he'll be good as new.

Ummm....... you guys best think again........ go to yahoo and look up something like:

amateur nudes and look at EVERY domain on the first page you get to from there.

I don't want these domains but people who think hyphenated domains are all bad best be doing more research on SEs....... not ALOT of people type in amateurnudes in an SE. People type in amateur nudes, and in an SE the hyphen is seen as a space....... Some of these are excellent if you are after SE traffic. I have like ..... well....... several domains that have hyphens and the better part of my traffic, although none of them get ALOT of traffic, but on average the ones I have with hyphens get 3 times more SE traffic than the ones without the hyphens.

So think again....... if you are someone after SE traffic, which we all are, SOME of these are pretty damn good for SEs...........

I am not trying to start a pissing match on this issue, but I did at one time do ALOT of reading on SEs and how they work.

Damn, what made the guy register such weird domains even with hyphens ? couldn't he atleast get rid of the hyphens?

Like Tam said, hypenated domains can be useful when working the SE's. I see A LOT of domains that have top listings for very competive keywords in aol with long ass hyphenated names like that. I read somewhere aol in particular (compared to other SE's) prefers hyphenated domains.

One of the veteran webmasters I know always says:
"It's not the domain name, it's what you do with it" :2 cents:
(unless it's a type-in domain)

And this is true, because i get top listings all the time for keywords that are not even present in the domain name I'm using; it's more about knowing how to properly optimize your pages rather than the actual domain name.

SR 04-04-2002 06:30 AM

I give you $150 for all

Actually, the top 3 are domains without hyphens. Which are also the 3 domains getting the majority of the hits from the first page.

So, hyphens don't do so well there.. Search for amateurs, not a single hyphen domain on the page. So, hyphens don't get first spot for either search.. Discussion over.

phogirl69 04-04-2002 06:32 AM

I'll give u $155

Just because there isn't a hyphenated domain ranked high for that particular keyword doesn't mean that hyphenated domains are useless. For example, if you do a search at google for "free hardcore porn" http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...hardcore+porn+ you will see the majority of listings on the 1st page are hyphenated.

Keep in mind that A LOT of other things determine a good ranking in google such as page rank, link pop, optimization and other good stuff. If you don't know what your doing you'll never get a good ranking, wether you have a hyphenated domain or not.

Tam 04-04-2002 09:21 AM

ok now for one thing......... why would you see a hyphen when you type in just one word like amatauers? MOST surfers, and I DO watch this....... I have places I go just to watch live searches and they don't just type amateurs into an SE simply because the search is way too broad..... they type in shit like "real amateur women" "amateur nudes" "submitted pictures" and things of this nature............. and if you notice, I use almost ALL plurals......... this is because it is done this way. They don't want ONE real amateur, they want ALOT of real amateurs... they don't want ONE submitted picture, they want ALOT of them............

Take for example, YOU want to look for a cheap computer, are you going to type into the search engine field cheapcomputer? Hell no you aren't........ Are you going to type in cheap computer? Hell no....... you want ALOT of them so you can compare so you are going to type in cheap computers... two words and with an S.

I am not right about ALOT of things but for about 6 months there, I did NOTHING but evaluate SE traffic and surfer habits in using them. THAT is when I picked up on the hyphenated domains, thought I would give it a shot and WHAM!!!!!!

This is not to say that this is all it takes, it isn't at all, but it is definitely an issue in SEs...... as phogirl says......... it isn't what the domain is, it's what you do withi t.

Tam

Rip 04-04-2002 10:11 AM

Some of the reasons that hyphenated domains came into popularity is because... when you applied for a link, if you wanted your domain name laced with keywords, you might buy free-sex-sex-for-free and call your site the same name, giving you a definite edge in directory listings like dmoz and google, if you could run it past the editors and get it approved

the big problem is that the porn listings are so corrupted by editors, that big s/e's like google no longer simply default to dmoz categories

best advice, your domain name should be descriptive, relevant and easy for surfers to remember

most surfers are not going to type in a whole bunch of hyphens, to look for your site again

rude bitch seems to be pretty easy to remember ;) and probably gets a lot of type ins
