Is it possible to get shaved with CCBill affiliates?

I'm getting a hunch someone is shaving my sales... how easy would it for them to do it with CCBill?

chadglni 12-24-2005 11:06 PM

No sir! :1orglaugh

TurboAngel 12-24-2005 11:06 PM

anything made with perl/cgi can be easily manipulated.

That's just something failures like to say.

i love ccbill. make no mistake. i think they are one of if not the best processor out there.

but it's POSSIBLE to get shaved from ANY sponser program.

including ccbill.

that doesn't mean it came from ccbill though.I don't believe ccbill would ever do that. Some of their affiliates, maybe.... I'm just saying it's POSSIBLE.

it's like saying you have perfect security - there is NO SUCH THING. There's ALWAYS a way.....

Of course it's possible there are a lot of greedy fuckers out there what is the program? By the way I think ccbill is great and it wouldn't be on thier end

kaori 12-24-2005 11:36 PM

unless it's ccbill shaving, there isn't much they can do with php if you're linking DIRECTLY to the ccbill code...
(refer.ccbill.com/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)
some sponsors set the cookies manually however, and that you'll never know :)

Hell Puppy 12-24-2005 11:38 PM

Always possible since the sponsor hosts the tour and join page.

Not all that likely though since CCBill programs are typically revshare. There's not near the incentive to shave revshare, and I'm sure CCBill would not be pleased if they caught someone playing games. Best case a sponsor is risking their reputation, so I just dont think it would be happening with anyone who has been around the block a time or two.

I meant to say i know its NOT ccbill..... fuck its late.

bdld 12-24-2005 11:43 PM

while its not considered direct shaving, a sponsor could add links to their dvd store, an email collection box or their other sites.

BIGTYMER 12-24-2005 11:45 PM

CCBill isn't shaving it would be the sponsor. They can easly swap out your affid for one of theirs and so forth.

Hell Puppy 12-24-2005 11:51 PM

Another thing to keep in mind is you typically wont see the same conversions on a CCBill sponsor as you get from sponsors who are running software such as NATS that can cascade thru several billers.

I will say that we've seen conversions dramatically improve for every site we've ever moved to NATS from just running one processor or the other. Not just a CCBill thing, sites running on Paycom only also fair better when moved to a cascading system.

woj 12-25-2005 12:17 AM

It's possible to shave with ANY processer and ANY affiliate software...

Zester 12-25-2005 12:25 AM

it can be done. not by ccbill, but it's possible.
a sponsora are like women, they are nice to you to manipulate you from realizing you are only a method of making money for them.

faxxaff 12-25-2005 12:29 AM

I can't believe that CCBill would be involved in shaving at all.
Unfortunately there are some sponsors who do use some dirty tricks, such as setting up 2 different ccbill accounts on similar sounding domains. Sometimes they redirect their traffic to the other domain where affiliates get no credit at all.
Another trick is to use alternative paying methods/processors and redirecting certain regional traffic to different signup pages (i.e. from Japan or Germany).
There are many ways of shaving and there are some black sheep out there who do it, but my guess would be that the majority of programs is pretty honest.

Manowar 12-25-2005 03:33 AM

you can ALWAYS be shaved

Calvinguy 12-25-2005 03:55 AM

If an affiliate send a visitor through the refer.ccbill.com/xxxxxx link but the sponsor also hardcode a affiliare ID using ccbills affilatevariable who will get the sale?

DWB 12-25-2005 04:26 AM

If they (site owner) set the rebills to ZERO and do not tell you...
If they set the exit pop from ccbill, the XXXXXX will not follow...

So you can lose money like that but CCbill does not have a shaving option.

spacedog 12-25-2005 04:49 AM

last couple of days I have been examining some sponsors closely & examining the linking codes, the tours & join links, etc, as well as the exits, leaks etc & some programs I can say I was not too happy with what I found.

One particular program with standard ccbill linking code, upon clicking a FHG, yes that's right, a FHG, & the fucking FHG has a popup on ENTRY to a webcam page that does NOT have the refers ccbill id in it???? & that popup ends up in FRONT of the FHG.

I have also clicked through tours & see my ccbill id in the linking code throughout the tour UNTIL I arrive at the join form & now all of a sudden there is a DIFFERENT ccbill id.

I have also come across several where upon clicking ccbill linking code I arrive at tour & the ccbill link is no longer visible anywhere at all throughout the tour. Not in the browser window, no where at all.

Quite a few of these also have exits with plenty of xsells to AFF, Weg, CE & plenty of other programs. Personally, I'm going to eliminate promoting any program that does this. I don't care if they upsell in members area, but that's pretty shady to do it on the tour. I'd prefer that they xsell their own sites & give me some sort of credit for the traffic I sent.

I am also going to eliminate using any program that has their url on the content used to promote them.
I am also going to eliminate using any program that uses the sites domain as the domain for hosted promo material like FHG. Why would surfer click the link in FHG that is at http://www.somepaysite.com/promo/fhg...01/gal_63.html when all he has to do is go to browser window & remove the promo/fhg/model_01/gal_63.html from the string & go straight to www.somepaysite.com?

Bet your friggen arse that more than 2/3 of surfers do this!!! You can also count on the fact that the url on content generates several type ins. particularly on movies & videos. The surfers are typing in the url, not clicking the fucking links. wake the fuck up people.

I've even been to sponsor sites that use ccbill, but instead of the ccbill linking structure I am given some link code that is NOT ccbill, but instead something of the programs creation. Now, how do I know that this code is tracking properly? Chances are that it is not.

You have some good points, but I can hardly think of any sponsors that will give out content without their copyright notice/url. To many content thieves around!

About the directory sniffing, there should not be a problem with that at all, because once a user lands on the fhg (that is before he can dig into the file tree) his cookie for the affiliate program is already planted in the browser. So you will get credit for the sale.

If you want to check if your affiliate code is correctly transmitted, go all he way to the signup form and check the source code. Your affiliate code should by right there and not in the browser status bar.

This is normal. Once you go to the page you set with ccbill, you will not longer see yoru code and there is a cookie set. Though we CAN set the time of the cookie as well so if the surfer leaves, we can say how long that cookie will last for you to get credit if that surfer returns.

Theo 12-25-2005 06:23 AM

can you set a cookie from a .swf? if you can this has to be the easiest way to get away with it.

sure you can but a cookie can only be read from the same domain it was set by

Theo 12-25-2005 06:53 AM

true, you could hide i guess from where the ccbill link loads for 2nd time (from a .swf)

I want to know about all the programs that do any kind of shit to their affiliates.
please name them here or if you don't want to shit on them here or don't have the balls to name them here: ICQ 135978-99-8

We do that with nats linking code, sales are tracked properly and you can check for your affiliate ID in the signup page. (view source)
