Is this christmas eve traditional stupid?

Every year when I was a kid my parents would let me and my brother open ONE christmas present on christmas eve, I think to sort of tide us over until Christmas morning when Santa came lol.

Well, I've been doing the same thing with my kids. It seems to work pretty well. Every year they act like little sweethearts on Christmas Eve b/c they get to open their present and it satisfies their hunger until christmas morning.

Does anyone else do this? Is it kind of stupid to you or do you think it is a good idea or what?

We do the same each year with our two girls...so no, I wouldn't say its stupid. Keeps them occupied while the adults have their time together.

We open the whole damn lot on Xmas eve.

The drill around my house is we have a Santa cap on top of the tree, and each year a different person puts the cap on and plays Santa, handing out the gifts, then we all watch the person receiving the gift open the package...

When it's over, the Santa cap goes back atop the tree.

Awww that's so sweet. I have two little girls too :-) I wasn't sure if other people did that on christmas eve or not. My best friend told me it was weird :-)

That is a really cute tradition! Very original, can't say I've ever heard that one with the santa cap before

Naw, I wouldn't say weird. I've known lots of peeps over the years who do the same.

Our girls are 15 & 12...so not quite so 'little' anymore, but they still get in to the spirit of things.

Just don't buy xmas presents. Solves that problem.

I thought that the "tradition" was that the family would go to mass or something. It's funny how as Xmas has become more and more commercialized the tradition has changed to opening the goodies..

adultchica 12-24-2005 05:44 AM

Funny you should say that Tempest, I still type it out as christmas with the "christ" in the title, yet you wrote xmas. And you speak of commercialism? :-)

Btw, I'm not trying to be rude. Today everyone should try and be at least a little pleasant to eachother

I'm lazy girly... I suspect if I was religious I'd type it out as Christmas (note the capitalization)... but as it is... well ya know.. ;)
