Started a new Freehost, now what? =/
 

Ok, I just started a new hosting venture. I would like some input from the pros of this board that have experience with freehost. I have been using www.verisexy.net for private posting for a few users for a year and have decided to open it to the public. I need to know what I can do to stop cheaters that will abuse my host.

I am going to offer 50Mb of space with ftp access. I will allow mpg files up to 1Mb in size. I have my own cage, 5 servers and a dedicated connection so I am very serious about this. I need some input from you guys. I hope I don't make too many mistakes.

Do not open a freehost.

i wouldn't start allowing up to 1 meg. maybe like 300k at most. you could get eaten alive in bandwidth

Woah, someone posted just as I posted. FlyingIguana, I have noticed allot of big movie post require large mpgs. 1mb is a good size I think. I have allot of bandwidth for now. Any more advice?

I would change the color of the links on top of your index page, people will not able to look at them right now. (hurts eyes)

www.verisexy.net is just used as a portal to the content server and it will link to another server once this one is full.

VeriSexy, one way to possibly cut down on cheaters is to close to the general public and only accept adult webmasters form gfy etc that contact you either on the open posting or thru the private message capabilities that some boards offer. It would certainly help keep the warez to a minmum. :glugglug

Cheat bandwidth, a VERY powerful adservering system, stats for selling off your specalty traffic (find out of you have some japanese language traffic, if you do send it over to Dreamcash http://www.dreamcash.com/REFA1MMMJ/ ) umm... watch your signups for trends... if you notice a bunch of users from the same email watch their accounts, they generally are up to no good, watch out for large text files, extensions that are changed from zip or whatever to jpg, gif... watch out for child porn... watch out for child porn... get used to the idea of the police calling you about child porn, get to know your US Customs agent by name, get used to the idea of getting Cease and Desists on a regular basis... make sure that you have headers and footers that can be EASILY Changed (like one file each, and not thru your freehosting system), learn to optimise your 404 page like mad, watch your referrals to your advertisers and try and promote the pages that are more effective at sending traffic to your advertisers.. watch out for child porn... Make sure you have an easy system for reporting spam and/or copyright violations... Check your admin mail often, and get used to spam. :)

Ok, server is back up. I had hardware failure and not my harddrive got swapped into another server. Hopefully that fixed it. Why have you guys decided to spam here? =) LoL
