Just until Christmas is over. They always have a mother or grandmother that makes tamales this time of year. I miss the good ole days.

I haven't tried a mexican tamal, but i don't think they are that different from the ones we do here. I ate 2 tamales yesterday they were so good, my grandma did a good job this Xmas!! :winkwink: umm

Come to Costa Rica, i'll invite you to have a couple at least.

Back north there was a supplier of authentic foods from south of the border. They have corn husk wrapped tamales that are as good as any made by any grandma.

Do you know why Mexicans make tamales for Christmas???

Believe it or not but I had my very first tamale (after 31 years) the other night when my girl and I went out to dinner. I am certainly a creature of habit and usually stick with the things I like rather than venturing off onto other parts of the menu.

I decided to get a little wild the other night and ordered the tamale....I didn't like it. :(

Not sure exactly why but I think it was because it was mildly sweet and I didn't expect that.

Tamales make a great xmas gift, all the better that they unwrap -- i'll bet they have mexican tamales and peruvian ones and dominican ones, each with a following all its own -- i, for one, love 'em, moist especially the unwrappin'

real tamales sound good - how come Taco Bell doesn't offer tamales?

theres a tamale place by my house they are awesome. i just started eating them a couple years ago. i tried them at a few mexican resturants and they were gross.

My ex's grandmother spoke little English, but her tamales transcended language barriers. I just thought about her and her tamales the other day.

My mother in law makes some kick ass tamales.

Will she mail me some?

Remember the old Bimini house that PBarbie and I lived in last year? There was a nice Mexican family living next door and at Christmas one of the kids delivered us some of their tomales............................Mmmmmmm I wonder if they would mind me swinging by for a visit................ :winkwink:

I use to go to a little town in Mexico called San Cateen I think and there was always this old couple that walked the beach with a bucket full of home made tomales, they were the best!! But by then I was always on my 3 sixpack of corona!

I wish I read this before going out to lunch. Went to a Mexican restaurant on the pier, and it totally sucked. I would have gladly driven an hour or so for some authentic tamales.

hmmm, come to think of it, my date is a vegetarian so she may not have been as enthusiastic as I about a road trip.

Just make sure you get a big driveway, the Charger takes up more room than a BMW. :)

Dude. Drive over to Van Nuys. Find a "Vallarta" or "El Super" or any of those mexcican supermarkets and look out side of it. Someone is always selling homemade tamales.
