Help me retreive data from old HFS+ Hard Disk... PLEASE (I am stumped)

OK...

awhile back my Mac suffered a break down and being as old as it was I decided to lay it to rest for good. I did however keep the 40 gig HDD I was using as it had lots of important data (in hopes I bought a new mac) well I never did get a new mac and I want to transfer this data onto my PC (mostly common files like htm and jpg mp3 etc.

I can get windows to recognize the drive and it says it is RAW and when I try to explore the drive it asks if I want to format it. I thought partition magic 8 would help, but nothing. I have tried several different things and nothing seems to be working please help. Thanks.

there are plenty out there that restore data, problem is it usually pertains to same file structures. I know there are some out there that will do this across platforms, but where? Is it worth $50 to $100 per app to find out? or perhaps endless hours of searching and downloading pirates? either way it is easier to ask someone who may have had these issues with a server or something similar... as I beleive it is either unix and/or linux that also runs on the HFS file system.

I've heard Knoppix may contain the hfsplus driver for linux, if that's the case you can simply download the Knoppix ISO, burn it to CD, boot that CD, mount both drives and copy the files over.

Can't hurt to try :) Thanks, I will be sure to post results for future reference (seems to be a lack of that on most help boards)

Anyway, AgentCash, that was unsuccessful. At least until I look into the OS a bit further, but with the utilities and other neat features, I could not get either drive to mount, but my windows boot drive mounted fine.

A really sweet piece of software though, I like it. Thanks :)
