Is there an onmouseover code that works both in IE and Firefox?

To hide sponsor codes in the status bar. I have always used the code bellow, but it makes the status bar in Firefox go blank. :helpme

Code:

onMouseOver="window.status='http://www.site.com/';return true" onMouseOut="self.status='';return true"

By default firefox do not allow the statusbar text to be changed by a javascript. There is an option under javascript > advanced to toggle it on/off.
