    Question about Players Ball Woody's

    I see some great choices being chosen for winners but I didn't see any of the nominations or voting. Where does this usually take place ? Who chooses ?

          Well, I have a secret panel of over 400 webmasters, each having at least 7 years of experience.

          They were voted as judges years ago.

          And they're all in my head.

                      But seriously, the way I came about my decision to pick the winners myself is simple.

                      I don't play the politics, I can't be bought (but I'll look at all offers), I have the experience in this biz and a network of thousands of webmasters I consider friends that help me pick the winners.

                      Usually when you leave things up for a vote, it doesn't really favor the true winners. It takes a deeper understanding of this biz. Vote systems are just tough and people always say they're fixed and the advertisers win every time. XBiz actually pulls it off the way they do theirs and they have winners no one can argue. So props to them for pulling off a real awards system.

                      For me, I set the stage at the biggest event in our industry. We have the attention of almost every major player. I felt I shouldn't keep the spotlight on me, this party isn't about D$ it's about all of the players in this biz. So I give awards to show people who the best of the best are.

                      Feedback on GFY has been instrumental over the last few years, I also get feedback before making up my mind.

                      And I must say, I think I pick some pretty damn good winners!

                      I haven't seen one argument over a winner yet.

                              You do pick great winners D. I haven't seen one yet that I didn't agree with. I was just curious so I could see who else might have been in the running, but it's ok if we don't too.

                                  Sometimes I'll say I do ont he boards, because I'm really thinking about giving it to them.

                                  But sometimes, there isn't even another choice but the person I pick.

                                  Maybe I'll evolve these awards into the full awards thing, but for now it's more of a side note to the Players Ball party. This is the first year I'm announcing winners on the board in advance. So maybe next year I'll announce the nominees then the winners in advance. But with doing the nominees comes the politics too.
