NYC Transit System on Strike
 

Will cost New York $400 million a day. haha fucked, we had people calling us to whine all night haha.

one guy said he drove to the store today and people were trying to get in his car while he stopped at lights so they could hitch a ride. fucking pathetic. people are apparantly trying to wave down or just get into any car they see offering a couple of dollars. I think that raise will come quick haha

They threatened this when I was living there a few years back, but they got what they wanted.

they dont deserve the raise though.. 40-55k to operate a bus? train? being a token clerk?

come on now.

i bet those that are on strike will try to walk their way back into work after a few days, no more than 1 week of getting paid.

im sure most of them live off check to check.
even for familys.. if u're married.. u're on strike.. now your spouse cant get to work.. it'll even hurt more..

and college kids have their finals to take this week too.. these people really dont give a shit...

they shoudl all be replaced...

Do you know how much it costs to live in New York? :1orglaugh Not only that, when unions go on strike they have enough money saved up to get a check still for a certain amount of time.

they said they are going to take legal action against the workers who strike so i guess we'll see what happens...

supposedly will be fined double their daily pay for each day off the job.

I don't think those salaries are high, I think they are low for NYC.

If you've lived in NYC you'd probably agree that $55,000/year doesn't go that far.

course i do. i live in new york. but they just bus drivers. most dont even have an associate degree.

Also, the alternative is that you could replace these workers who will work for less. However, there is of course a big problem. Who is going to train them? Who is going to restart the massive transportation system if everyone is not working?

The unions have this all under control, all under their control.

If you can't live on what you earn, you get a better job or move - not go on strike, lol! :thumbsup

I've never understood the "strike mentality". If you're not happy with the pay/benefits/management of where you're working, then leave. If you can't find a better job then take advantage of our free education and get trained to do something else. If you won't do THAT then tough. :upsidedow

plus, its not just about that 6-9% raise..

they also want early retirement at age 50.
