So I watched "The March of the Penguins" last night and...

Penguins are about the dumbest fucking animal known to man!!! What a joke! They honestly deserve to be extinct!

So they walk AWAY from food to have their children and then half of them (the females) have to walk ALL THE WAY back for the food. Then they walk ALL THE WAY BACK to feed the babies and the males walk ALL THE WAY back so they can eat.

Why don't they just have their fucking kids NEXT TO THE FUCKING FOOD!?!?! I know everyone said that the movie was cute and all that and I'll probably get flamed for starting this thread but I just don't get it.

*Morgan Freeman did a good job though.

michael moore should make a documentary criticizing the penguins for their actions... there needs to be light shed on the subject! penguins can't go around doing stuff that doesn't make sense! that's bullshit

RISE UP FELLOW MEN!!!!!!!

I agree! There needs to be an end to this madness!

I thought it was because it was too cold near the food and lots of predators there, that's why they went to the middle of nowhere to mate. I doubt they'd make that long ass journey for the view.

Worse. :2 cents:

We watched it and enjoyed it - I was under the impression they went to that place because of the surrounding ice walls blocking the winds and the ice being thicker there for warmth...

And the predators too like WG said.

In the film they said that it got colder where they had their babies (the blizzards and stuff).

Also, after all that.....

**********SPOILER - DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE**********

THEY JUST LEAVE THEIR KIDS TO FEND FOR THEMSELVES after they return! WTF, if they were just going to do that then they should have had the kids next to the food. I was totally baffled by that film.

78 proffesional paid movie critics disagreed with you.

But its the only solid place their little kids could stand as I recall (its been 2 months since I saw the movie). I thought it was thicker ice, warmer, better suited than their original habitat. After all, the little kiddies don't know how to swim for themselves yet and in their natural home, they could just fall into the water. Plus the predators thing.

One thing I did find really cool, was how the penguins were able to find that ice spot every year off memory. Oh and the outtakes at the end where they penguins would come up and play with the video crew, that was too cute.

One of my Top 3 movies of the year... I thought it was awesome.. smoking a blunt before the show and watching it with my gf prolly swayed my opinion tho.

Seriously, I usually am as well. I think that TMOP was so amped up and praised by the critics that I had very high expectations going into it. That is generally the recipe for an unsatisfactory experience. I am usually a sap for nature shows and am a huge nature enthusiast. The filming was amazing and Morgan did a great job...the story just didn't do it for me.

My girlfriend keeps busting my balls about it and tells me that I have to walk 100 miles the next time I want to make love to her. So I just beat off and go to bed. :thumbsup

You see, I was the opposite. I had never heard of it at the time and it was at a b-theatre so I had no idea it was even a descent movie. So I went in with little expectation and was relatively surprised.

I agree....watching it after smoking a blunt does make it alot better. The craziest part about that movie was that they go through all that work and a shitload of the eggs actually end up freezing because they are exposed to the ice for like 10 secs...all that work for nothing!

I don't smoke pot so I wouldn't know if it would make it better or not but I'll take your word for it. It is crazy how their eggs freeze that fast if they make one wrong move.

Why don't they move to Africa? It's much warmer there. :thumbsup

If I recall the reason they go so far inland is because the glacier begins melting inward and they provide themselves enough land for the time the baby is developing. Thats why the initial walk was farther than the walk at the end. Its a brutal atomsphere there and they are one of only a few species that has figured at how to adapt to it, they are hardly dumb.

It was Morgan Freeman's opening of the movie. Penguins are stubborn. LOL

It showed that their nesting ground, by the time the babies were ready to swim, was like 50 yards from the water due to the ice melting. That was the only safe spot to have the eggs, and somehow they knew they had to go 70miles in the winter to get there. I thought that was pretty darned smart.

Ok, Ok, so my girlfriend rips me a new one because of this thread. I showed it to her and she is forcing me to post this. I am not doing this with sound mind or body....

I should be extinct because I am an idiot and chooses to insult things that I do not understand rather than trying to understand them. The average penguin is smarter than me. :(

The wife 'n I rented it a few weekends ago - we both enjoy'd it. The landscape scenery was incredible...and Morgan Freeman's narration was excellent.

Rather resilient, those crazy penguins.

reed_4 12-19-2005 11:08 PM

I'm with you Rob, I agree that's the worst documentary ever made. :disgust
