WTF... RE-GIFTING! Do you think this is O.K. ?

People are talking about Re-gifting this holiday season more than I've ever heard before. :(
I know I've thought about taking a gift I received that I never opened or used and wrapping it up to give to someone else for a present but never actually did.

Does anyone here Re-gift? What do you think about this practice? :xmas-smil

Gnat69 12-19-2005 09:51 AM

I don't like it personally, but I believe in good karma and if there is someone that I know would love it then I would give it, but that is rare, the only time I have done that is when I got married and I got Crystal.....I had to pass that on....

Babagirls 12-19-2005 09:53 AM

i've never re-gifted but i've re-used gift bags for xmas that i've got the year before LOL is that wrong? :helpme

WoW! 12-19-2005 09:53 AM

It's ok as long as you're not re-gifting a dentist

tiferet 12-19-2005 09:55 AM

poor practice
hate people who present smth needless
like to choose presents on my own for each particular person!

Manowar 12-19-2005 09:56 AM

i dont like the practice of regifted

Tera 12-19-2005 10:00 AM

I never re gift, or I haven't yet I should say. I don't paticularly think its the right thing to do. Although if I noticed I hadn't opened something and I knew somebody that would love it, then I probably would do it.

I would never take something that somebody gave me and immidiately re gift it.. that is just lazy!

CDSmith 12-19-2005 10:07 AM

I'm not crazy about it, but I can accept the fact that people do it and are going to keep on doing it.

I'm sure it sure sucks though, when that friend is over to your place a year later and asks "Say, I feel like some popcorn, what's say we use that nice popcorn popper I gave you?" and you're like ..... "uhh... uhhhhhhh......."

lol

I guess the best advice is THINK before you regift. :D

MickeyG 12-19-2005 10:09 AM

if your not going to use it and the other person would, why not? Perfect example, the other day someone gave me a bottle of wine and I absolutely do not drink wine yet I know several others who do, should I keep it and let it collect dust or give it to someone else?

Jennyfer 12-19-2005 02:39 PM

In that case why don't you keep it and invite some friends over.

I don't like the re-gift thing...if someone took the time to gave me a gift i don't think is fair just to give it away.

chadglni 12-19-2005 02:41 PM

Nah I take it back and get a refund and don't give any gifts myself.

selena 12-19-2005 02:41 PM

While in theory I agree that re-gifting is more practical, I'd rather something collect dust than me run the risk of somehow hurting the feelings of the giver.

sherie 12-19-2005 02:42 PM

I'm totally against it.

What I would do in that situation is have a few friends over, the ones who do enjoy wine, and let them drink it up while you enjoy their company.

The whole idea of re-gifting defeats the meaning of Christmas. I'm sorry but I think its extremely rude and unappreciative to re-gift unless the person who originally gave you the gift feels the same way. Honestly last week is the first time I've ever heard the word "re-gift".

Wiggles 12-19-2005 02:51 PM

i hate to do it but relatives keep buying us shit we don't need, want, or have room for, you can only have so many toaster ovens.

well if you get something and thought someone would love it more than you, why not just give it away. but of course don't let the one who gave you the gift know you gave it away.

WiredGuy 12-19-2005 06:07 PM

I never have, but I don't see the big deal behind it. If you got something you don't like and think someone else would like it, go do it.

It's lame, like Sly said, it defeats the whole point...

KRL 12-19-2005 06:45 PM

Why not? If you aren't going to use it, might as well pass it along to someone else who might.

I've done it a couple times. :1orglaugh

Dalai lama 12-19-2005 06:48 PM

I dont do that. But feel free to re-gift me your gift.

pornguy 12-19-2005 06:52 PM

I have done it once or twice, but because the gift would match the other person better. I have been regifted. On fact last year, we were regifted by a frined, that was so drunk when she gave it to us, she told us.

But we actually liked the gift.

Like I said, in theory, I get it. I just would never do it.

Because the laws of my universe say that if I did, I would somehow end up getting busted by the original giver, even if I regifted to someone living in Outer Mongolia.

sfera 12-19-2005 09:03 PM

lol thats cheap lol

Slap Dot 12-19-2005 09:04 PM

Kind of fucked up

Vitasoy 12-19-2005 09:45 PM

I never done it, but I know others that have

reed_4 12-19-2005 11:11 PM

RE-gifting is not OK! ok?
think about it, what would you feel if someone would give out your gift that you gave him?
