Godaddy - You Fuckers

they just autorenewed 31 domains of mine that I wanted to let expire.
That is $285,2.
I don't have any domains on autorenew
this is fucking fraud

anyone had the same thing happen to them???

chadglni 12-18-2005 07:28 AM

I'll buy em from you for $3 each.

BIGTYMER 12-18-2005 07:29 AM

That sucks. I've never had that happen. And I've set auto on some and not on others. Contact them.

You probably do.

I have some domains there and it never happened to me.

u-Bob 12-18-2005 07:30 AM

post them here...

slapass 12-18-2005 07:31 AM

Kind of unrelated but aren't you tempted to renew everything so that you have old domains?

rezdesign 12-18-2005 07:33 AM

fuck i hope that doesn't happen to me.. :Oh crap

dissipate 12-18-2005 07:40 AM

One of the reasons i wont use godaddy.com

DutchTeenCash 12-18-2005 07:43 AM

if you ever bought a domain through paypal on GD theyll use the paypal data and claim otherwise youll loose the domain, happened to me too some time ago on a domain I didnt want anymore...

fris 12-18-2005 07:43 AM

ya, i am moving all my domains off godaddy, only 2 left. and if a person pushed a domain into your account they have a stupid rule you have to wait 60 days.

Can't be the case because I set all domains on manual renewal for exactly this reason!!!

Damian_Maxcash 12-18-2005 07:51 AM

I hate those wankers - I know its a bit late now but use NameCheap for everything.

GoDaddy are all about the upsell - Im at the point where I wont buy cheap domains from people who use them. If its worth a few dollars then I will do it, otherwise its just hard work.

Basic_man 12-18-2005 08:10 AM

Fuck, I hope they will not renew my domains :(

Trax 12-18-2005 08:20 AM

i just mailed paypal that this charge was unauthorized and is therefore fraudulent
they better get me my money back

JamesK2 12-18-2005 08:25 AM

They did that to me too. I didn't even know I still had an account with them (after they hijacked my domain and put it for sale).

I'd say chargeback those bastards.

SMG 12-18-2005 08:33 AM

yeah godaddy is scum and I've sent them numerous nasty emails about their shit ... I've had things like this with autorenewal happen before but not on such a large scale (only 2 domains) ... also what fucking pisses me off is they got all cocky when they did their stupid superbowl commercial last year - right afterwards they changed the order system so that when you order new domains it doesnt let you set nameservers ... then if you forget to immediately login, unlock, and reset nameservers again theyll use your new domain for their spam for 2-3 days >:O ... and then they do this new shit with shorter expiration periods and try selling your domain afterwards ... fuckin scumbags - I'm switching all of mine soon as well.

Trax 12-18-2005 08:48 AM

glad I dont keep money in my paypal account
so pp took parts from my cc
calling visa first thing tomorrow morning

fuckers

andrej_NDC 12-18-2005 08:55 AM

Happened to me, too...I deactivated "auto-renew" and hope it doesnt happen again. Even though they did it to you with auto-renew off. Are you sure you didnt choose auto-renew when buying the domains?

The issue is that after someone pushes the domains into your account, then you can't transfer them to another registrar for 60 days.

Marshal 12-18-2005 11:10 AM

godaddy sucks! too slow and too irresponsible!

Sosa 12-18-2005 11:20 AM

never have had that happen unless they were set to auto renew.

Pete-KT 12-18-2005 11:24 AM

Never happened to me with godaddy unless i have them set to autorenew

pornguy 12-18-2005 11:27 AM

I have never had that happen, and I only have a few domains left with them, and they are doing thier best to make it as hard as they can to move them.

pradaboy 12-18-2005 11:48 AM

Another reason GD sucks, still people stick with them claiming "they're golden"

Well fuck them, I have my domains nicely spread out over Moniker, Fabulous and Enom.

I went through a long ordeal with them about it as well. Apparently the default is to auto renew. I also had the same problem with IPowerweb when I hosted some sites with them. They autorenewed everything and charged me like $500.

The good news is that they made it right and I got all of my money back. It's just a pain in the ass to have to deal with.

Screaming 12-18-2005 03:04 PM

never used them and from they way it sounds im glad

Yepper, they did that with 13 of my domains. I moved them over to DirectNic with my other ones. (I ripped them a new a-hole and they did credit my card back)

Granted GoDaddy is cheaper but DirectNic will give quantity discounts.

If you used Paypal its actualy a good thing. Dont just email them. Make a dispute on the charge via the PP site on your account. GoDaddy has 10 days to answer the dispute and if they dont Paypal put s the money back in your account. And even if the do answer and ya dont like the answer you still can keep disputing it and fuck GD over trying to get that money. I had a trial
Napster account for 30 days and set it up on my PP account. After the trial I couldnt figure out how to cancel the acct and couldnt even uninstal the fucking software. When they renewed me via PP for 15 bucks I filed a dispute. Napster never answered in the 10 days and I got my money back.

if you chargeback against paypal (that's what you'd be doing), paypal will put your paypal account into negative, and try to settle it with any bank accounts you have attached. if none of those have funds to cover it, they'll send it to collections..

speaking from experience.. someone bashed me in a thread the other day when i made negative comments about paypal, don't remember who.. hopefully they're reading this :)

kektex 12-18-2005 05:24 PM

Hmm...I registered like 10 domains this week using a loophole that let you register the domains for $4.19 using their promo that every domain costs $1.99 when you buy a non-domain product.
Even though I automatically cancel renewal on the non-domain product they still renewed a bunch of stuff without my knowledge.

chipmunk 12-19-2005 10:54 AM

Trax, hit me up when you have a second...
Thanks
-=Chipmunk=-

pushpills 12-19-2005 11:55 AM

yep, had that happened too, had paid before with paypal with them. they were not on autorenew. it was only for like 5 so i didnt care, contact paypal.

Ron Bennett 12-19-2005 12:23 PM

I'll take a stab at this ...

Perhaps the original PayPal transaction was set as "recurring" - either within PayPal ...or more likely within GoDaddy's own billing system.

trax and pushpills, go into PayPal payment history and see if the purchases are marked as "recurring" ...

They probably aren't within PayPal, but it would be interesting to know either way...

Again, my guess is that GoDaddy internally treats some PayPal transactions as recurring.

Ron
