Should I tell my accountant I do porn?

Should I tell my accountant that my biz is adult related? My IRS
employment category is "internet advertising and related services" but should I mention to my CPA that its adult oriented?
Or should I just let him assume its mainstream? I'm a bit uneasy about letting my CPA know the facts.

Does YOUR CPA know the exact nature of your business? Do you think it's imperative to let your CPA know that your business is adult , or is this a small detail that can be left out? Let's hear everyone's views on this!

Amputate Your Head 04-01-2002 07:26 PM

yes.... your accountant is the person that will keep your ass out of IRS Hell..... my accountant knows more about me than my fuckin' doctor.

Fletch XXX 04-01-2002 07:27 PM

Be honest to your accountant, just not the IRS.

Your accountant, SHOULD be on YOUR side. If you cant find one who is, I have a friend here, that will.

SykkBoy 04-01-2002 07:29 PM

my accountant is fully aware of the adult stuff (otherwise hard to explain certain write-offs ;)))

Paul -C- 04-01-2002 07:31 PM

My accountant has seen my sites ;)

DPlayMax 04-01-2002 07:33 PM

depends if your accountant is reborn :)

phogirl69 04-01-2002 07:34 PM

Fletch,

Do you know a good CPA in the Orange County area by any chance?

I'm afraid my CPA might think of me "weirdly" because I'm a female. Perhaps it's ok to disclose to your CPA the fact that you peddle smut if you're a guy; your accountant might even think your profession is cool! But since I'm female he might think "weirdly" of me...

BTW, do you guys show your accountant all your sponsor check stubs? Or is it acceptable to add them up yourself and give him the total income earned amount and expenses?

Your car dealer should know ... they are a major sorce of income =)

Gemini 04-01-2002 07:48 PM

Our acct knows more or less but she held up her hand and said she didn't NEED the exact details...

Use quicken or quickbooks pro (better) and enter all your payments etc into it, then at years eand run reports after asking your particualr acct what they want. Print them out... take them in... and it will save you a percentage generally on the returns being done. :thumbsup

Maybe you would feel more comfortable with a female CPA and not some horny guy.

shann 04-01-2002 08:08 PM

A friend of mine is an accountant, he works with adult related companies and webmasters. Shoot me an email and I can give you his contact info.

:thumbsup

Yes a judgemental woman would be better than a horny guy who might whip out the ol' credit card and buy something off your site.

But if she is afraid to tell the male accountant that she is doing porn in the first place she will not get a sign up anyway.

Hi,

Thanks a lot, but I can't find your e-mail in your profile.
Am I correct in assuming that I would just communicate with him on-line or does he have an office in California? To be honest
I would not feel comfortable face to face discussing these things :(

Hi Corona,
Are you the same Corona from TNB? If so, this is Jackie! I'm just posting under a different knickname here. I don't know what's worse though, a dirty old man, or a judgmental woman CPA.
Some women are very conservative and think all porn is bad.

phogirl69 04-01-2002 08:34 PM

I just found this place on-line http://www.hrblock.com/taxes/doing_m...ducts/pts.html

Here you can have your taxes done professtionally on-line by an
H&R Block accountant for a fee without having to see them in person.

If worst comes to worst I'll try this then. Thought I would post it just in case anyone else would like to try it.

shann 04-01-2002 08:39 PM

Oooops! I thought it was in there! [email protected]
He is available online, don't have to see him.

:winkwink:

My accountant knows everything he needs to know or asks about, and yeah he does know about the adult stuff and probably doesn't approve, but what do I care? He's saved my ass a few times. He's a professional, and I pay him.

Sjayne 04-01-2002 10:26 PM

I couldn't find an accountant in London that does US taxes. Since I am still American I still need to do them. So, my parents account is handeling them. Which is a nightmare...I work in internet marketing as far as she is concerned.

I wish there was another option when I am working from this distance.

SleazyDream 04-01-2002 10:52 PM

YES - they should know. My first firm was author anderson - the same firm who did the books for enron - and they DUMPED me when I told them I sold my financial business for a mini porn empire. This was way before the enron crisis. Fuck am I ever laughing at their HIGH MORAL GROUND now since they basically DOCTORED the books for enron and caused the LASGEST bankrupsy in U.S. history. Real protectors of their integrity. HA HA

my current CA loves my sites and has no problem with it. Most are hoes just like us, they'll so anything for money. When someone doesn't (like auther anderson did to me) you know they just got a pole up their ass.

ADIDAS 04-01-2002 10:54 PM

My accountant is a very christian man, and knew what I did before before I went to him! They know you are a business man, and trust me, they want your money. Now if you were selling drugs to kids...maybe not....well not all!

:)

UnseenWorld 04-01-2002 11:53 PM

When I'm claiming sex toys, travel expenses to hotels in the same city I live in, wardrobe, men's magazines, etc., it's hard to keep the accountant from knowing what kind of business I'm in.

Nurgle 04-02-2002 01:23 AM

I haven't told my accountant exactly the nature of my work except i work in Web Advertising and Webhosting.

They don't really need to know exactly what you are doing I wouldn't have thought ;)

I don't think it should be the first thing you mention when you walk into the room, but you have to be prepared to use the "adult" word at some point. You already know the vague answer to give when people ask what you do, if pressed you tell them more. And if your accountant isn't mature enough to handle it, then your financial affairs would be better handled by someone else.

cherrylula 04-02-2002 10:56 AM

I fucking hate taxes, and tax time. Good luck.
