how do i stop my computer from beeping

Just got a new computer and it keeps beeping from inside the box when theres an error. Is there a way to disable these beeps via control panel or bios so I don't have to open the box and unplug the speaker?

Elli 12-17-2005 04:44 PM

there's a 'beep on error' option.

;)

there definitely is a setting for external speaker ...but i have to hut around to find it ... I'm sure someone will have it before i find it ..

restart

hit delete until you get into the cmos

poke around

I don't think unplugging the speaker would help. Most mobo's come with a small built-in speaker.

yah thats the speaker im talking about, i usually unplug it but this system is new and i havent opened the box yet so if theres a way around it all the better

You have to water it. It beeps because it needs to be watered, kind of link a flower.

Just kidding, I think a beeping can mean many things. Check your fans and make sure they are still working fine? my computer peeps when the CPU gets too hot? or did once :)

Have you disabled all sounds in windows? That's the first thing I do after a fresh install.

I know this may be a strange concept but...

Why not find out what the actual error is and fix it?

Im pretty sure if you fix it, the beeping will stop too, as if by magic :Graucho

Lee

Riiiiiight...

like that's ever worked before.

Sosa 12-17-2005 05:02 PM

lol, why not fix the actual errors?

Try:

control panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Sounds(tab) and select "No Sounds"

This will stop most sounds but not all.

Give the box a good hard smack on top of it until it stops

CheneyRumsfeld 12-17-2005 07:14 PM

I would do the very same thing that I do when some putz is telling me a lot of bullshit I am not interested in:
I turn off my hearing aid.
and all is well.

20 lb sledgehammer, use it, for about an hour on ur box

Antonio 12-18-2005 04:42 AM

unplug the little speaker inside, nothing else helps
I got three new PCs in the past few months, disabled all the Windows sounds yet every time that beeps comes back

cool1 12-18-2005 06:26 AM

I hate when the computer beeps when it starting up.

georgeyw 12-18-2005 07:09 AM

take out the speaker in your box - no more beeping and/or turn it off
