Google Now The World's Largest Copyright Infringer?
how is Google Video getting away with it? They just grab videos, re-encode them with Flash and slap a link to the website they found the video on. What makes Google different from you and me?
US Copyright Office is a joke - i'd love to see how many people actually work there - i waited over an hour and a half to talk to anybody and registrations are now taking 5-7 months and they don't even have a system where you or they can track the status of your registration. maybe Google figures so few people actually register copyright it's worth the risk that occassionally they will get sued - kinda the mainstream version of the old AdultBouncer. |
I didn't check, but do they allow adult content on Google Video? Cause if they ever do, that pretty much means lights out for all of you folks... IF they keep hopping over the copyright law.
I'm not sure what the specifics of this whole thing are, but if content starts getting shown on their, TGPs could be in a whole world of trouble |
From what I've seen you have to upload videos via an agent to their site, where they get approved. I've uploaded a few myself. But adult isn't allowed.

Mind you, it's better advertising for whichever url gets pasted on the video, if it isn't already branded. |

I didn't say correctly in my post what I meant, what I think is that they don't spider for the videos, but they are submitted. Also news sites and such have feeds they send and are regularly added and updated.
|
so people are submitting videos to Google - got a URL for the submission page?
|
as long as they pay for the bandwidth great!!

The Fair Use exception is definitely getting a lot of play :)

i just watched a 30 minute episode of Showtime's "Bullshit" show on google. I'm pretty sure this was uploaded by some user who does not own the rights to that video. I have found a few videos from popular TV shows on there. i seriously doubt the copyright owners gave consent to use these videos. i smell lawsuit. |

Was it good? If so, please post the link. |
well talk to me like i'm 3 years old.
if you had a short video clip (less than 5mb) and it is branded with your URL why wouldn't you want google displaying it? |
I think the user posting the vids is responsible. They will also allow users to charge for their vids and get a % or something like that ... pretty cool ideal.
Honestly, except home videos and couple other stuff, I haven't seen anything that made people loose money from their content. |
