What he said. Even if you haven't fired anyone, do you have people over very often? I remember when people used to come to my old studio you could tell the ones with the shifty eyes were possibly going to be trouble. I had cameras all over that joint though and they were in plain site.

Sorry to hear about your burgerly! That sucks and I hope they find the chump(s) that are responsible!

pornguy 12-16-2005 05:08 PM

Sucks - I feel ya. I had a TRV950, Samsung minidv, 200gb external, and my laptop with all of my personal and a lot of business stuff stolen last year. Total was over 5K that was out of my pocket and never covered by the insurance. Never solved but I still have my ear to the ground. Having those serial numbers is good :thumbsup

Best of luck and hopefully you will get to crack some heads.

tranza 12-16-2005 05:59 PM

SilverTab 12-16-2005 10:53 PM

I know how you feel man, same thing happened to my house 2 weeks ago...

good thing I had insurance, but I still lose 2-3k worth of electronics...(they took approx. 10k worth of stuff)

AmeliaG 12-16-2005 10:55 PM

You might want to check ebay listings for camera equipment in your area for a few weeks too. Something like this happened to a friend of mine recently and the police said that bizarrely enough they catch people selling stolen stuff like this on ebay more often than at local pawn shops these days. Not that you shouldn't check the local pawn shops too. That sucks. I hope you find your equipment and get whoever did it.

No doubt. It always helps if you have a record of the product serial numbers, too. Then if anything suspicious appears on Ebay, you can email them with some bullshit like "Hi, I'm interested in this D1X, but I'd prefer the model with the later generation philips LCD instead of the sharp LCD, please let me know the serial code so that I'll be able to tell which generation this model is"... which makes no sense & is a complete bullshit question, but if they're dumb enough to steal it, they may be dumb enough to answer. :upsidedow

I need to get me some of those ultraviolet security taggin pens, too.

jonesy 12-16-2005 11:33 PM

What is the dollar amount? I bet ALOT.

:(

RawAlex 12-17-2005 11:49 AM

Hint for shooters: Secure your equipment. Don't leave stuff unlocked on site. If you have studio area, install a large safe or secure cage, and lock the stuff down. Combine that with an alarm system (connected to a central office) and it will take the theives longer to steal your stuff than for the police to arrive.

Make sure your "equipment room" isn't a room that models and their boyfriends get into. Never have your equipment out and on display. Make a big deal all the time about making sure the models and their suitcase pimps know about the alarm and the locks and whatnot. Don't be shy.

Too often you will end up shooting girls / models that "need the money bad", and them and their friends will look at your stuff as an easy score.

PROTECT YOURSELF! Sorry to have seen it happen to you, but protect yourself better in the future!

Alex

Th!nk 12-17-2005 12:41 PM

sorry to hear bout it...this will cause you so much disturbance! glad you are all ok.

Honez 12-17-2005 01:09 PM

One messed up thing about this time of year and about having people you don't know around your expensive (but necessary) equipment. My boyfriend got lucky once. He interviewed a couple that answered a modeling ad he had running. Weeks later he gets a call from someone they had been staying with telling him that this couple had stolen a gun and were on their way over to rob him. My boyfriend called the couple on their cell phone and they answered. He told them he knew that they were on their way and so were the cops. And he had his .380 loaded and ready just in case. The guy tells him he just got out of prison (for home invasion, go figure) and has nothing to lose. The cops showed up but the couple never did. I guess they thought better of it. I am just so glad the guy they were living with had the brains to call and give a warning.
Bobby, that sucks so bad about losing all of your stuff. I just can't imagine the violated feelings you must be having right now. Just thank your lucky stars that whoever ripped you off didn't do it with a gun while you were there. I hope they catch them!

sirbknight 12-19-2005 01:06 PM

Ok here is the update, First off I want to thank everyone for you support and kind words. Yes this sucks huge. We do keeps things locked down, plus the building itself usually has good security but since the hurricane and the damage that was done to the building and all the repairs that have been going on things have been less that secure and we have on numerous occasions complained to the building owners. All I can say is our words came upon ?deaf ears?. Yes the cops were here and the print guys and there is black powder shit everywhere that does not come off!!!

We have hit all the local pawn shops with list as well as all the camera shops in our area as well as registered all the equipment and serial numbers online. Thanks again for all the suggestions. Our total out of pocket loss is about 36k and we have no insurance (we supposed to be in a secure building) and last year we had a theft from one of our executives and our insurance carrier would not cover the hit because the theft was ?By an employee? after that we dropped the insurance.

So Merry Fucking Xmas to us!

All I can say is this fucking sucks?.and if I ever catch the scumbags that did this??

BigRod 12-19-2005 01:10 PM

wow that really sucks man....

Big Red Machine 12-19-2005 01:36 PM

Sorry to hear about your loss, maybe keep your eyes peeled on CraigsList

Pipecrew 12-19-2005 02:12 PM

we've had girls steal cameras on the bangbus haha. doesnt take a genius then to figure out who stole it.

Girl - unknown
stud - known
driver -known
sanchez - known

fr0gman 12-19-2005 02:18 PM

File an insurance claim and move on. We had 4 laptops stolen back in the spring and it was as simple as filing a claim. That's what we have insurnace for right?
