Why do search engine listings drop off?

Up until today, I was getting around 1000 Yahoo uniques per day and all the sudden today barely any traffic is coming in to my page from Yahoo.

Without changing things, why does this happen and is it common for you guys as well?

Thanks...

your listing got lower?

HXMGP 12-15-2005 11:58 AM

Yes, I can still find it but a lot lower. I was coming up top 10 in some good searches. What causes it to all the sudden fall???

Maxy 12-15-2005 12:03 PM

yahoo only lists new, then fades off, they want all the traffic for themselves

HXMGP 12-15-2005 12:23 PM

Hmm, so you don't think I'll get my high listing back again? What if I resubmit the page again for listing?

rockbear 12-15-2005 12:24 PM

jojojo dosen't have a clue about yahoo when you ask him why a site don't do well with yahoo.

Yahoo is hard to understand sometimes...

HXMGP 12-15-2005 12:34 PM

It's funny because I got the page to get lots of traffic from Yahoo but barely any from Google. I know they look at pages differently and I haven't figured out Google quite yet. I know title and domain is important to Google though.

Doctor Dre 12-15-2005 12:35 PM

I'm glad my link stayed at the same spot ;) woot woot

teksonline 12-15-2005 12:36 PM

bot traffic != traffic

HXMGP 12-15-2005 12:38 PM

So did Yahoo just have an update today? Sucks how mine fell way down!

angelro 12-15-2005 12:55 PM

SEs are currently banging... wait some days and see if your ranks are back... if not than it's time you should start some linking campaigns... and yahoo it's not that hard... it's just the thing people (teenagers especially ) don't use it too much and it's more bussines targeted... so some people think it isn't worth of working it out.. which is a stupid thing in my opinion.. every single click is good either it is from yahoo or google or whatever... because every single click might transform in a sell... if you are interested in some SEO work hit me up on ICQ at 216429032 and we can talk more about it ...

Welcome to my life. Ever changing algorithms and the constant battle to stay on top. Frustrating isn't it!

Google's the one to aim for

Seeing as Google gets 80%+ of all search queries, I'd concentrate on getting listings with them rather than Yahoo: and the best way with them is good quality content and good backward links.

lilspup 12-15-2005 01:49 PM

Yahoo updated yesterday. Lots of reasons for a drop in listings, can be frustrating sometimes, but usually easy to fix.

ya. last month, all year i've been banking off a few killer listings in yahoo then bam, nothing. i was used to getting a couple wires a month from the listings, then noticed they stopped. sucks. :disgust

Hardlinks 12-15-2005 01:53 PM

Wow got some nice boosts in yahoo.

Some actually match my google ranks :)

I must owe someone here thanks...haha

Mighty Chin 12-15-2005 02:01 PM

Good Job Chin!

Mighty Chin 12-15-2005 02:44 PM

Actually one of my sites with sub-domains included had 4 first page results as of two days ago. Today I now have 11.

HXMGP 12-15-2005 09:33 PM

Maybe when I wake up tomorrow the Yahoo traffic will be back again? I'm still puzzled why it all the sudden dropped way off! Pisses me off!

sfera 12-15-2005 09:38 PM

you did sumthing wrong i imagine

Rob 12-15-2005 09:38 PM

Because someone has a better site? Just a shot in the dark.

HXMGP 12-16-2005 05:12 AM

My listing is still gone, hopefully I get it back soon because I resubmitted it again.

nico-t 12-16-2005 05:34 AM

i got this traffic decrease a few days ago at first i though my sites were being hacked or something.. for one site the decrease is really huge.. i think it has to do with yahoo, but 80% of the traffic down seems too odd to be only from yahoo..

HXMGP 12-16-2005 05:56 AM

Exactly same thing happened to me brother.

I'd say this would be the root of your problems - SE's like change

angelro 12-16-2005 08:21 AM

Yeap agreed. Indeed they like fresh content... but not too much :)
