King Kong Kicks ASS!

Just saw it.

You have to see it to believe it. Lots and lots of excitement and laughs. Action like crazy. Not as horrific as I expected but it's PG-13.

You have to see it on the big screen for sure with a kick ass sound system. I would freak if I saw this on IMAX. IMAX and this movie would so own everything else.

SomeCreep 12-14-2005 08:34 PM

cool, gonna see it this weekend

Doctor Dre 12-14-2005 08:35 PM

That's one of the few films that are "locked". I'm glad to hear that .. .great news. I already knew it was gonna be great, but everybody seems happy about it now !

StickyGreen 12-14-2005 08:35 PM

well i keep hearing good things so i'ma have to take my girl this weekend...

adultchica 12-14-2005 08:37 PM

I am excited about this one bigtime! Anything Peter Jackson does lately seems to be like gold. I saw the "making of king kong" on HBO earlier today and it looks great!

Stacey_JoinRightNow 12-14-2005 08:52 PM

My friend told me too it was good, plan to check that out this weekend...

Jayvis 12-14-2005 09:08 PM

Literally just got home from seeing it. THE SPECIAL EFFECTS WILL SIMPLY BLOW YOU AWAY.

pornguy 12-14-2005 09:10 PM

I would love to, but with a 6 month old, and no one to take care of him. I will have to wait.

RevSand 12-14-2005 09:17 PM

I was hoping it was gonna play at the IMAX at Universal but its not :( I am going to have to track down one it is playing at.

mrthumbs 12-14-2005 09:18 PM

Thats funny.. i havent heard one negative review from you morons yet. Must be something special then. even UFO boy digs it.. wow.

Red Ezra 12-14-2005 09:59 PM

fucking loved it

PixeLs 12-14-2005 10:31 PM

For sure, you'll see me with the crowd in theater this weekend.. :)

ModelPerfect 12-14-2005 11:04 PM

I just saw it tonight. It was pretty incredible, but there were a few things that kind of threw me. I don't want to list any spoilers but the King Kong meets Jurassic Park meets Judo thing kind of distracted from the story (imho) but was obviously meant to appeal to the ooh ahh crowd. All in all, definitely worth seeing on the big screen. :)

Bansheelinks 12-14-2005 11:49 PM

Just got back from my viewing of it. "King Kong" despite some flaws, is a fucking masterpiece. The last half hour was one of the finest ever put to film, from his capture onwards. How he weaves raw emotion into just mind blowing special effects is still lost on me. All I know is Peter Jackson is just playing in another league, he's so far ahead of everyone else. This film is an instant classic. Period.

tristan_D 12-15-2005 12:21 AM

I'm planning to watch it this weekend when I do my Christmas shopping.

Shoehorn! 12-15-2005 12:27 AM

Just got back from seeing it as well. Pretty damn good, bud, but they could have cut a lot of shit out to make it shorter than 3 and a half hours. :Oh crap

reed_4 12-15-2005 01:28 AM

cool....thanks for telling us good things about that movie and I would surely watch it.

High Quality 12-15-2005 01:30 AM

There's no way in the world this movie will disappoint you, HQ. And take your lady to it too.......she'll be bawling at the end and you'll be there to 'comfort' her

:winkwink:

The movie though is an all-time instant classic.

:thumbsup

Nookster 12-15-2005 01:44 AM

Ja, personally there were things I was disappointed with and things that totally were unexpected. Yet you KNOW when the DVD comes out you will have to beat people with a fucking stick to get it. You KNOW the director has to go the DVD gamut. First the 'extended director's cut' and then the 'extended, extended, director's special edition' version ad nauseum. There's only one major action scene that changed from the original and I can understand why to keep it pg-13 but I'm really, really, really hoping it's included in the DVD.

This movie had the audience really involved which is one of two reasons to see it on the big screen. We hooted and screamed and howled and cheered and nobody got angry, nobody said "shhhhh" this was popcorn monster movie fun from beginning to end. Even Naomi Watts started lookin' like a babe after a while. It's funny cause Jack Black frequents my neighborhood and I see him at the 7-11 or the restaurants or hangin' with the boys and then see him on the big screen with a monster. Several people in the film I see at the local hangs so it's weird to see somebody who asked you for a cigarette or a buck for a soda or something running from monsters.

If you had any second thoughts of waiting to see this movie on DVD you are shorting yourself. Go see it when the theatre is packed full so you can enjoy it with everybody. I'm going again when the whole neighborhood shows up and we are gonna have a fucking ball!

Think we're going to see it on Saturday night...

ADL Colin 12-15-2005 04:16 AM

Saw it last night. It was awesome. Better than the original and that is up against one of Hollywood's all-time classics.

Blasphemy!!!

It wasn't better than the original. Not by a long shot. It's more of a 'better' take on the original.

The original was more brutal. There was actually little blood in the new version which again doesn't surprise me cause it's pg-13. Actually you could have given the new Kong a G rating. It had far less violence than a cartoon show, it's just Kong and the monsters are definitely scary as fuck. It takes a lot to get me to jump out of my seat and there's one scene where Kong roars that sent the audience straight out of our seats! I even went for my shit. Almost had a repeat of the great movie screen shooting of '83 in the Bronx.

The sound in this movie is fucking awesome! It really raised the bar.

"Blasphemy". That is a faith-based statement. Hardly ever one ever thinks an original is outdone because it serves as the mental template. Open yourself up. Kong 2005 is better. ;-)

Nope! It ain't better. It's a different take on the original story. It's a super work of the art form but it's not the same as the original. The original was a horror/love story. The 2005 is an action/love story. There was only one scene in the new version that made me go 'ewww!' yet in the original there were multiple scenes that were stomach churning.

This version had lots of humor. The original was straight forward horror and brutal.

Two different takes.

PussyTeenies 12-15-2005 05:03 AM

gonna see it tonight ;)

If you admit the possibility of a classic being bested by a remake this was it.

If not, there is nothing to discuss. That would be a "religious" belief. ;-)

Horseshit.

The original was made during the day when it was timely. This new movie is a nostalgic look back. When the original played, they used what was then technological solutions to beat Kong which were airplanes. The story took place in then present day. That's the major difference. I remember growing up and watching the original and people would say it really happened and us kids looking for it in the history books.

This version you know is a fantasy. The triumph is that it stays close as possible to the original and embellishes upon it with today's state-of-the-art technologies of cinema. In another 20 years there'll be another remake using technologies of then, BUT it will have to raise the bar in acting as this version of Kong was superiorly acted out by the actor who played Gollum in LOTR trilogy. He should get nominated for an Oscar for this performance. If any of you are fans of primatology and have studied the great apes, you can see how the actor and special effects duplicated the behavior of the mountain gorilla and then some. Just brilliant.

Vitasoy 12-15-2005 08:12 AM

Haven't seen it yet, but sounds great.

sickkittens 12-15-2005 08:13 AM

I'll check it out this weekend. For some reason, I'm not a fan of IMAX movies.

Tyric 12-15-2005 08:32 AM

Damn - I'm a HUGE LOTR fan, everything from the movies to the appendices. I have NO interest in seeing Kong . . . or didn't until I saw this thread. It's a giant monkey. Never understood the draw. Anyway, on my way to the movies . . . ;)

JuiceMonkey 12-15-2005 08:36 AM

fuck yeah it was a great flick..
the "ice" scene was one of the best scenes in a while...

Now THAT was brilliant. In fact, the last half an hour of this movie was just unreal how well it was done. You're going to be hearing a lot about this movie in the next while, but there are a few things that stand out: the last half an hour, like I said before, is just unbelievable in how great it is..............the sequence where he battles the 3 T-Rexes is EASILY the greatest action sequence EVER done on film, it is staggeringly good......and in summary, King Kong is the best action-adventure film ever made, yes, even better than Raiders of the Lost Ark and others. King Kong reigns.

-- Lou Lumenick, NEW YORK POST

"Here is the jaw-dropping, eye-popping, heart-stopping movie epic we've been waiting for all year."
-- Peter Travers, ROLLING STONE

"This is one of the year's best films."

THAT'S THE FUCK WHAT I'M TALKIN' BOUT!!!! :thumbsup

That 'ice' scene is now in my mind one of the top great classic scenes EVER!

It was totally unexpected but said so much that these two beings enjoyed one another's company. Plain and simple. Along with the 'cliff' comedy scene.

I'm sooo glad someone else thrilled at the 'ice' scene. That scene ALONE is great enough to go back and see the movie again.

In the past few years there're two romantic scenes that stand out, the upside down kiss in Spider-Man and now the 'ice ' scene in King Kong.

Nuff fucking said!

have to agree with you GregB. i know we were both looking forward to KK and it certainly didn't disappoint.........in fact, in many key areas, it exceeded my expectations, which were already sky-high considering he did the great LOTR trilogy. however, you didn't even mention the battle with the T-rexes. in my mind, that simply laid waste to anything thats ever, i mean ever, been done in an action adventure movie. it was so good and amazing it annihilates everything else.

and if you want emotional depth, i'd refer anyone to the whole incredible empire state building sequence. its enough to make you question if Kong was real or not, the cgi was that brilliant and the emotional connection that well established. between Jackson's use of Gollum and now King Kong, this is a real threshold in cinema history of the use of cgi. i totally agree with what you said before, if you don't catch King Kong on the big screen before it goes to DVD, you are really missing out on something special.

:2 cents:

Banshee, I didn't mention the TRexes because I didn't want to spoil it for the rest of the gang. But now since the cat or dinosaur is out of the bag, we might as well go on with this scene and not spoil anymore :)

The T Rex scene/battle/melee/rumble/throwdown/smack down etc. was so awesome it takes a day at least to get over it. I'm a fan of the original Kong and bold enough to admit I freakin' love "King Kong vs Godzilla". The coconut bra on that chick in KK vs GZ is enough :) Kong and Zill threw the fuck down! My standard for movie fight mayhem.

Yet I knew Kong fought a T Rex in this new version and when I saw two show up, I said to myself, " He had to add two to out do the first Kong. Now if he is really a sick/psycho he'll add a th-" before I could say a 'third' the 'third' T Rex showed up and then I KNEW I was in for a major ride for the rest of the movie. That scene has to go down in history for a bunch of reasons. My high point was when Kong finished off one T Rex, he grabs it's still moving head and drives the upper nose through the brain. That shit was soooooo fucking off the hook! That's what gorillas do.

The scene kept getting funnier and funnier and ferocious.

I hadn't seen the LOTR trilogy until last week. I sat down and watched all three back to back. The extended versions at that. Took me three days to get through them all. Gad, it was like they would never fucking end! The technical brilliance is unquestionable for sure, so I was at least familiar with Peter Jackson's sense of humor and figured he would go all out for Kong.

It only made $10 million on Wednesday but expect that number to rise for the weekend even though it's fucking winter. Had this movie come out in Summer you would have had to beat people with sticks.

Hype is what's selling this movie, BUT, word of mouth is the extra ammo.
