Would I get banned from SE for..
 

Having an html page with a bunch of transparent images that linked to my galleries?

There would be nothing on the page except the transparent images and a full page ad.

Anybody have any idea how SE would react to this?

Put it this way....suppose you RUN a search engine, how would YOU feel about it?

You will get banned for sure, google is really good catching it, so unless you have a lot of domains on different IP's why bother.
There are a few pro's out there who gets away with cloaking and other cheating shit (imo) , but unless you belong to them, which I assume you don't :) play it honest with google and reap the rewards in a few months.

since you're gonna be catched after 1-3 update cycles anyway do it with text links instead at least, so you get the increased benefit of the text in the links. To hide the text links, you could have them in a table with a background gif of the same color as alink=
