learning linux, unix, bsd, php, mysql, asp...

would it be possible to learn:

- everything about linux, unix, bsd and other OSs
- everything about html, php, mysql, asp, java
- servers, perl, apache and all the shit

in lets say 2 years of constant learning ?

HorseShit 12-14-2005 04:51 PM

hell yeah, but only if you made it your full time commitment and did NOTHING else 7 days a week 10 hours a day...LOL

that is a lot of shit to learn...haha

Damian_Maxcash 12-14-2005 04:56 PM

the problem if you try to learn everything is that in 2 years when you think you know it all everything you learned at the beginning has changed.

Learn the basics in most - and specialise in one or 2 things.

and certainly dont try and mix your os's - linux/gpl OR windows.

just learn what you need and if you have a specific practical target for learning it: sure.

mikesouth 12-14-2005 05:23 PM

You are being retarded...even if you could learn it all in 2 years everything would have changed enough to make it irrelevant.

learn the basics and assuming you can read you can do whatever you need to assuming you RTFM

actualy you are retarded. once you know win95 you will very easily learn winXP as well. Once you are familiar with FreeBSD 5.4 you will very easily catch up with FreeBSD 6.0

I agree that maybe its not the best idea to learn everything about everything but its a good idea to know something about everything or everything about something.

don't let them talk you out of it...just give your best and everything is possible :)

Evil Doer 12-14-2005 07:44 PM

yes... very possible

PixeLs 12-14-2005 08:00 PM

With focus and eagerness to learn, I guess it's possible. :thumbsup

Learn by doing, host your own email, host a small low traffic site. And when crap hits the fan, dont run to the message boards asking for help, trouble shoot, work the problem out. It will take you 3 times as long to fix your problem BUT you will learn a hell of alot more than getting help from someone else. But theres no shame in asking questions if you get stuck.

Learn to troubleshoot and everything else is cake. :)

I have been working with UNIX since 1978 and I dont even know EVERYTHING about it.

I even taught UNIX internals classes at the college level

to think you can learn everything about UNIX in 2 years is RETARDED

but if you can read you can learn enough to understand the man command and do whatever you need to

Deek 12-14-2005 08:58 PM

Oh and MAN pages are your friend.
