Digital Cameras....Need some Advice

I want to get my girl friend a digital camera for X-Mas, I need some advice on what ones are good etc. I am looking to spend about $300-$350 CDN. Cheers!

Panasonic Lumix, great zoom and auto-stabilization.

Yes, you do need the bigger memory but I have found this with every digital camera.
My big beef with my nikon is it takes way to long to power up. The sony is less then a full second from start to photo.

Must be an older nikon. Mine starts amazingly fast.
