About to have a MONSTER AMD computer built for me. Sparing no expense.
I am about to have a monster AMD computer built for me by a friend. I am sparing no expense. Hehe
I want to do the research myself on the parts. What are some good sites for reviews and recommendations on parts? I know of Mikeshardware. What else do you guys recommend? |

Newegg is straightfoward, but never buy used components from them, i've been beat on 2 power supplies from them. |
if you aren't spending 5k+ it wont be a monster

I have been using pricewatch for like 6 years and have NEVER had trouble finding the advertised price and I have never gotten tricked...I usually save 10-20% off the newegg price any time I buy something |
Graphics card wise, get two of the newest 512mb 7800's. Will set you back a good $2000 for both of them, but it'll be worth it ^^
|
For what purpose are you building that monster machine?
|
how much is this "monster" worth?
|
www.tomshardware.com
www.arstechnica.com ars technica has three systems designed for different performance ranges. Budget Box, Hot Rob, and God Box Check out the God Box if you wanna spend like 10K |

BTW, if you really want a MEGA computer call up Sun Microsystems (www.sun.com) and have them build you one of their server systems for you. You will be looking at something like 100+ processors each running at over 4 ghz and another 100+ terabytes of data. These are the systems that the IRS, Library of Congress, Microsoft, Etc. use to power their networks.
An example of one: CLICK HERE FOR AN EBAY AUCTION These systems start at around $100k and take off from there to the sky :) Jim |
to spend big big bucks on something with no warranty is crazy. Have boxx build you a BOX http://www.boxxtech.com/index.asp

|
why AMD when you can buy a new Pentium D?
|
amd is better then the pentium d, you can't even play Battlefield 2 with a D, you have to turn off one cpu or it crashes. (last i tried, i've since switched to a amd chip)
|
Dual AMD 64 X2 4800+s
4GB DDR 4x250GB SATA 2x Nvidia SLI cards etc etc etc That should work for ya. ;) |
