Pornography vs Erotica
I prefer erotica.....it is intellectually stimulating.
Pornography is such an ugly word and places limits on the value of the media. While erotica and pornography may denote the same image, the connotation of the words are vastly different. Pornography definition: the depiction of erotic behavior intended to cause sexual excitement. Erotic definition: devoted to, or tending to arouse sexual love or desire. Erotica definition: literary or artistic items having an erotic theme or quality. That is why we are the "adult entertainment industry" and sellers of erotica. The Christo-naziis try to frame their arguments in terms of "pornography" and "child protection," while the FSC and adult industry leaders frame the same arguments in terms of "rights to privacy", "First Amendment Rights", and "anti-censorship." When we, the adult industry members, use the term "pornography," we play into the hands of the religious right and legitimize their arguments by applying their terminology to our selves and our products. We can do better. Are you a pornographer, selling pornography? Think about it.... |

The FSC is not the ASACP; nor, do we agree on all positions concerning the adult industry's problems. If ASACP uses the words "child protection" in their ad, the inquiry and criticism should be addressed to them. The ASACP's mission is probably the reason they use those particular words; however, please recognize that they do not take the same stances on trade issues as the FSC. In truth, they probably never considered the issue. I'll bring it up to Joan the next time I talk to her.

Personally, I think the reason for the name change was to distance themselves from the adult industry and move more into the centerist mainstream of the entertainment industry. They can now solicit support from groups that would never have supported anything with the name of "adult sites .........".

ASACP is not supported by the FSC in terms of finances or logistical support. They are two seperate organizations. However, that being said, the ASACP is probably the only child protection organization that is not hostile to the adult industry.
I think it is ironic that we really need to protect the adult industry from children. The little delinquents cause all kinds of problems in their endless search for a good sex ed class. The children should have some consequences attached to their lying, stealing, and conniving to gain access to adult websites that are trying to keep them out. I'd suggest 30 days in Juvenile Hall as a good lesson. Fraud and theft of services is a crime. Perhaps, I am being harsh.......nope. |

It is a tough issue that even the industry lawyers can't agree upon. Age verification will probably be dictated by MC/Visa at some point since they deny that their CC numbers are a valid means of determining age and don't want the associated liabilities.
