Why does everyone on here use ICQ?
Is it really that much better than say AIM? If so, I'm out of it.
|
It is what it is see sig.

I've never figured out why this industry uses ICQ either, but they do, so i do, so there.
|
For years, icq was pretty much the industry standard.....aim does suck..yahoo isn't bad...msn is awful....many now use trillian which incorporates all of them into one.
|
It's the way of things and you should never question it.

I dont like AIM because I hat AO Hell. ICQ is good, but sometimes has issues.
|
For the noobs.
Before there was AIM, there was ICQ. ICQ was the first standard this industy adopted circa 1997. |

ICQ is the best program when you have undreads of contacts . (trillian is actually).
It's mostly because it's industry standard. Nowdays I talk to a lot of people on aim or msn |
ICQ for biz, MSN and Yahoo for personal use.
|
I like ICQ for its message history and offline messages.
|
The reason why its prefered is because unlike the other programs you can leave messages for people when they are not online. Great for business. - Simple. Oh, yah, and it was first. =)
|
Trillian for all the IM programs.

everybody is on icq.......so kind of got no choice....not necessarily the best though!
|
It's been around forever and many people just use it
|
Icq kicks ass.... I just wish aohell would have implemented the right changes in time, then there would have been no msn, yahoo IM etc crap...
|
Cause of all the spam I get all the fucking time.

MSN doesn't save message history reliably and fuckin winks and nudges drive me up the wall. So I use that for family only contacts. Yahoo is rife with people randomly chatting asking for webcam shows. ICQ has the most useful privacy functions, secure connections, history keeping, and flawless integration with Trillian. Why change? :) |

Most of the historical big boys started in this biz prior to 2000 and ICQ was 'the shit' back then, and it's stuck ever since... newbies use everything else... PS: and of course to the argument for being able to leave offline messages that get through... |
get DeadAIM slackers...I get soo much spam on ICQ it pisses me off so bad. On AIM I get null spam. :thumbsup But go right ahead and follow all the sheep if you want. I'll stay right here ahead. :)
|
The history feature.

Great, you are using the best IM service in the world, but no one else does. Not much good, is it? |
Just probably because lots of ppl use it. Personally, I use both MSN and ICQ quite often.

Yeah, that is something I kind of take for granted. Another thing is that with ICQ I can request authorization, whereas with AIM, if you have not been previously allowed in, you will never get in. |
