Scroto 12-10-2005 10:40 PM

ask a Doc about inderall La for prevention and imitrex for the actual attack..been working for me and i used to have then 3-4 times a week sometimes lasting 24 hours +

Peaches 12-11-2005 08:34 AM

Agree with the Imitrex. I've had migraines for over 30 years and it's the ONLY thing that eases the pain. There are other drugs in the same class that might help if the Imitrex doesn't.

I took Inderal for years but it made me exhausted. Now I'm realizing I'm just getting old and out of shape and will probably go back on it ;)

jennym 12-11-2005 10:33 AM

Man, I feel for you. I have severe ones as well. Used to get them once or twice a month. I have been on several scripts and shots. Had tests and scans out the ass. Best thing ever was Anaprox. Docs didn't give it to me...a friend did. It is basically prescription strength Aleve. Now that Aleve is OTC, that is all I use. Migraine hits, I take 3 Aleve, and it is GONE within 30 mins.

zagi 12-11-2005 11:32 AM

My grandma has been having them since she was young, recently she found out that phenobarbitols - a type of barbitues I assume have helped her, check out this class of drugs if nothing else helps.

Stacey_JoinRightNow 12-11-2005 09:16 PM

Migraine is a form of headache, usually very intense and disabling. It is a neurologic disease of neuronal origin. The word "migraine" comes from the Greek construction hemikranion (pain affecting one side of the head)

Treatment

Conventional treatment focuses on three areas: trigger avoidance, symptomatic control, and preventive drugs.

Elimination of triggers
In a minority of patients the incidence of migraine can be reduced through dietary changes to avoid certain chemicals present in such foods as cheddar cheese, chocolate, nuts and most alcoholic beverages. Some triggers (for example, hunger or stress) may be situational and can be avoided through lifestyle changes. However, other triggers such as particular points in the menstrual cycle or certain weather patterns are impossible or impractical to avoid.

Avoid bright flashing lights if you notice these trigger attacks; most migraineurs are sensitive and avoid bright or flickering lights. Relaxation after stress, notably weekends and holidays, is a potent trigger; wind down gradually if possible.

I have them, too. Not like I used to when I was in school, though.

Mine must be different than yours, because there's no way in hell I could be sitting up in a chair looking at a monitor and typing.

sniperwolf 12-11-2005 09:53 PM

you are not alone.. I am having a hard time dealing with it...:(

How sure are you with that?

nicchick 12-11-2005 10:36 PM

Believe it or not, sex works great for me for relieving migraines. I read about it in a medical book years ago and tried it. Works best when the migraine is just coming on. Apparently an orgasm has a vascular effect on the brain which helps a lot of people (both male and female). Since fucking is the last thing you feel like doing, I've found that getting a good blowjob works best. The medical book said that masturbation doesn't work since the resulting orgasms aren't usually intense enough. I did a quick Google on it and found that a researcher at the Univ. of Illinois found that it helped 47% of migraine sufferers. Also found this link http://www.innerself.com/Health/migraine_headaches.htm

Also, it might be an interesting defense if you ever get busted for hiring a hooker, especially if you have a verifible medical history of migraines.

Tricksy 12-12-2005 01:20 AM

I do have the same...fucking migraines all the time. Try to put smth cold on your forehead. It sometimes helps.

fitzmulti 12-12-2005 01:26 AM

I can relate. I hate them...causes downtime, pain, and they just f'kin' suck.

Sex is also one of the best ways to relieve my migraines! I don't know if it does something to the blood pressure or keeps my mind off it, but I think I'm one of the few chicks that says "Yes, let's have sex - I have a headache!" :)

C-Bass 12-12-2005 10:41 AM

I get them also...very severe. Ask your dr about IMITREX if you take it early enough, it will prevent it.

http://www.myprivaterx.com/images/imitrex.jpg

there's an alternative to imitrex but i havent tried it yet - its a very strong prescription and also pricey!! ( $140 Cnd for 6 pills)
