You're Going To Love This Story About Canadian Government Overspending
So I am at my friend's electronic's store and we are shooting the shit. Well apparently a local political party in Orangeville has rented a 32" Sony TV from him for 30 days for their campaign. For those that don't know Canadian politics there is an election underway...So anyways he then proceeds to tell me how much...
$100 A DAY!!! The fucking TV set costs $600 at Walmart! LOLOLOLOL!!!! My friend asks the political party manager in this riding why they would'nt just go out and buy a TV because it's significantly cheaper then paying $3000 renting a TV for 30 days. The party manager says because they can't do that because the TV would become an asset! My question is why would'nt they just buy the TV and once the election is over they give the TV to a charity or auction it off and give the money to a needy charity??? Once again our hardworking Canadian dollars at work LOL! DH |
That's fucking retarded.

campaigns are run by people who spend their lives getting degrees - they don't have any common sense.
i'm betting if you or I decided to start a political party based on porn and MARKETED it right we'd be running the country at next election time |
That does not surprise me at all... but think about it this way :
If we would repair / re-use everything, with all the paper work needed to spend every penny (public money = need to leave traces), we'd end up paying a lot more people. But I gotta agree thought, it's fucking stupid. It's like the cops selling their bikes every year. They cost couple thousands to make, and they sell them for like 500 at the end of every year. |
awwww little america is growing up :)
|
They are idiots
|
Its because of accounting law, if you acquire an asset you can't expense it fully, you have to depreciate it over its usable life. Hence they are trying to avoid long term tax commitments and since they have a lot of money to spend they don't mind paying it.

idiot - maximum tax rate is about 50% $3000 total cost is more than 150% of the cost of the TV. pay the tax |
I cant believe he rents out a 600 dollar tv for 100 a day! thats the problem haha.
|
It's good for the economy.
|
ummmm...don't you mean political party spending? Not government spending?
|

Comes as no surprise...
Lemme guess - Liberal party? |

|

|

this type of waste is why I wont donate to the bastards. They are hot and heavy into phone solicitation,a couple of nights ago one of the parties called, doing a "survey" asking who I would be voting for, so I told them I would be voting for them, but I didnt do phone surveys so leave it at that, have nice night. About 20 mins later I was on a sucker list and a another call came asking for a donation. So I told them I will be voting for the party, but take me off their list, I dont do donations. :winkwink:
|
If they throw away money it doesn't show up as much on the bottom line as much as aquiring assets. As fucked up as that is, it's easier for them to hide their expeditures that way.
