The word bomb was never said..and buddy had a fanny pack on..FM=LOSERS
A passenger on Flight 924 gives his account of the shooting and says Rigoberto Alpizar never claimed to have a bomb
By SIOBHAN MORRISSEY/MIAMI At least one passenger aboard American Airlines Flight 924 maintains the federal air marshals were a little too quick on the draw when they shot and killed Rigoberto Alpizar as he frantically attempted to run off the airplane shortly before take-off. "I don't think they needed to use deadly force with the guy," says John McAlhany, a 44-year-old construction worker from Sebastian, Fla. "He was getting off the plane." McAlhany also maintains that Alpizar never mentioned having a bomb. "I never heard the word 'bomb' on the plane," McAlhany told TIME in a telephone interview. "I never heard the word bomb until the FBI asked me did you hear the word bomb. That is ridiculous." Even the authorities didn't come out and say bomb, McAlhany says. "They asked, 'Did you hear anything about the b-word?'" he says. "That's what they called it." When the incident began McAlhany was in seat 24C, in the middle of the plane. "[Alpizar] was in the back," McAlhany says, "a few seats from the back bathroom. He sat down." Then, McAlhany says, "I heard an argument with his wife. He was saying 'I have to get off the plane.' She said, 'Calm down.'" Alpizar took off running down the aisle, with his wife close behind him. "She was running behind him saying, 'He's sick. He's sick. He's ill. He's got a disorder," McAlhany recalls. "I don't know if she said bipolar disorder [as one witness has alleged]. She was trying to explain to the marshals that he was ill. He just wanted to get off the plane." McAlhany described Alpizar as carrying a big backpack and wearing a fanny pack in front. He says it would have been impossible for Alpizar to lie flat on the floor of the plane, as marshals ordered him to do, with the fanny pack on. "You can't get on the ground with a fanny pack," he says. "You have to move it to the side." By the time Alpizar made it to the front of the airplane, the crew had ordered the rest of the passengers to get down between the seats. "I didn't see him get shot," he says. "They kept telling me to get down. I heard about five shots." McAlhany says he tried to see what was happening just in case he needed to take evasive action. "I wanted to make sure if anything was coming toward me and they were killing passengers I would have a chance to break somebody's neck," he says. "I was looking through the seats because I wanted to see what was coming. "I was on the phone with my brother. Somebody came down the aisle and put a shotgun to the back of my head and said put your hands on the seat in front of you. I got my cell phone karate chopped out of my hand. Then I realized it was an official." In the ensuing events, many of the passengers began crying in fear, he recalls. "They were pointing the guns directly at us instead of pointing them to the ground," he says "One little girl was crying. There was a lady crying all the way to the hotel." McAlhany said he saw Alpizar before the flight and is absolutely stunned by what unfolded on the airplane. He says he saw Alpizar eating a sandwich in the boarding area before getting on the plane. He looked normal at that time, McAlhany says. He thinks the whole thing was a mistake: "I don't believe he should be dead right now." |
If you ask 100 people what happened, details will be different from each of the 100 people. At least one person may not have heard the word bomb.
I would rather that the AM take out one slightly more innocent guy than taking a few minutes to consider when a madman is about to blow up a plane. You truly need to get a life, dude. Alex |
I have a hard time taking anyone with a fanny pack on seriously. Why do they even sell those things?

dont latch onto my life and reply in my threads..if you feel i need to get one myself, dont post in my thread then dickcheese instead go out and buy a gun...a revolver..put one bullet in it..and then put the end in your mouth....pull the trigger..and then maybe comeback and post..maybe not |

haha thats what the guys in the office said as well. his first mistake was wearing a fanny pack..lol but it seems that is what he was trying to get out of his way while lying on the ground |

I suppose the next step is shooting any child (or postal worker) that reaches into their bags because there is precedent of them going postal (??) and shooting into large crowds! ... |

I'm tired of these threads. The fucking moron is dead. The air marshal did the right thing, get over it. =)
The moral of the story is don't fly on a US flagged carrier w/o taking your prozac. :) |

PS: Love the sig ... |
this may very well never be sorted out to the exact details of what happened - for now i suppose they'll just have to get as much information as possible - but the blame will obviously not end up on the federal marshals

but yea i'd never use a fannypack :1orglaugh P.S. anyone here that doesn't feel bad for this guy is fucked in the head |
Unless you were there you will never know what happened. It is a sad situation.

I'm not sure McAlhany is mentally capable of telling the truth. Here's part of a Yahoo story where he stated he was sitting in seat 21C. Passengers: Alpizar Didn't Say 'Bomb' By CURT ANDERSON, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 9 minutes ago McAlhany, a 44-year-old construction worker who was returning home from a fishing trip in Key West, said he was sitting in Seat 21C when he noticed a commotion a few rows back. |
So this guy actually tried to lay on the ground? Big difference from running down an aisle grabbing for shit.
|
Maybe he stated 21c, maybe the reporter fucked it up. Maybe the typist typed the wrong number from the reporters notes. Maybe it was a typo, the 4 is directly over the 1, and it's not a spelling error so might not have been caught before printing. Pretty flimsy to say the man is lying, lol.
Anyone remember the news story where the CNN crawl and numerous other sites said a meat company in pennsylvania was recalling "beef panties"?? Clearly mistakes slip through :) mmmmmmm.. beef panties |
So the reporter can fuck it up, but the guy can't have missed the words or not understood the guy correctly?
Come on. State it again for the record: I would rather that one crazy and potentially dangerous person is killed in nebulous circumstances than one single terrorists manages to take over a plane... in the air, on the ground, or whatever. As for "he was leaving"... have you considered the implications of a terrorists leaving a plane with a decent size bomb in a carry on bag, and exploding it as he hits the concourse? Perhaps a bomb with ricin or whatever packed inside? The Air Marshall did exactly what they are suppose to do: When in doubt, take the fucker out. Same group of people would be here hanging the AM out if he hadn't taken action and there had in fact been a bomb. Alex |
I wasnt speaking at all to the point of what was actually said. Only about the previous poster saying the man might not have the mental capacity to tell the truth based solely on "21C vs 24C" ;)
|
good thing that he didn't have a bomb that was detonated if his heart stopped.
US marshalls = retards ....shoot first ask questions later, total misuse of power. |
Tom, I pass no judgement on the person's ability to tell the truth, but I think it should be made clear that if 1 person out of a group of 100 says "this didn't happen", are we suppose to ignore the other 99 people?
rip raster, I hope you never have to count on one of those retards to save your ass. Alex |
This is all useless pondering and blaming. What do you think would have happened if the guy DID have a bomb and the FM DIDNT shoot him and the bomb went off killing everyone? Then everyone would be up in arms saying the FM SHOULD HAVE shot him or this never would have happened. Just cause a member of Law Enforcement shoots someone doesnt mean he must have been on a power trip or abusing his/her power. They are human just like you and I, they can make mistakes, only they have to make split second decisions most of us will never have to or could even imagine having to make and live with it the rest of their lives. This guy has a plane filled with passengers to protect.
If this guy is the only one saying he didnt hear the word bomb I dont see how credible his version of events could be. In high stress situations people aren't exactly sitting there with all their wits about them. Panic sets in, fear for life, need to escape, etc. People dont assimilate things as well while in a state of fear. Most Detectives will tell you that Eyewitness testimony is not always that reliable. |
Him and his wife were coming back from Costa Rica doing Missoinary work.
Very sad. |
very insteresting story. very much.

Guys and ladies,
It doesn't happy often, but I agree with Alex. I am sad that this happened. However, the Marshals did their job. I've started defensive handgun training, and I know that they have a split second to react, and have to rely on their training. They did what they were trained to do, protect the plane and the passengers. It's a sad world we live in today. :( |
Fucking retarded law enforcement, they need to start learning the difference between south americans and arabs.
First this brazilian in London, now this... Brazilian = do not shoot: http://www.komonews.com/news/images/...de_Menezes.jpg Arab = shoot http://www.lvrj.com/lvrj_home/2001/S...hotos/news.jpg and again.... When my friend and I were watching the live coverage I told him that the authorities account didn't add up and that there would soon be passengers coming forward to say that they never heard "bomb". |
anyone who doesn't see a problem with shooting first and asking questions later is a fool.
the "terrorists" already own your ass because you are letting your government make you more of a bitch then you already were. and we all now how your tune would be very different if the person shot was your father or someone you knew... so shut the fuck up. |

This is the world we live in, pull your head out of your head. Would I be upset, absolutely, then the facts would roll in, they had to shoot. Now reverse the situation fucktard. They talked to this suspect, who indeed had a bomb and killed over 100 people with it. Now what? Fuck if they do, fuck if they don't. Some of use are pragmatic of the world we live in, others think if they stick their thumb up their asses and hope the bad man goes away, he will. |

Anyone that thinks the FAM policy is to "shoot first and ask questions later" is a damn FOOL. I can give you countless flight numbers when FAMs didn't bat an eye while pax were taken into custody by crew and other pax. The fastest way to end your career as a FAM is to ID yourself on a plane full of passengers. I'm sure the guy in row 24/21 heard everything in 1st class and/or on the jetbridge. :1orglaugh |
live in fear and live not at all
stand tall and walk proud lest ye be taken for a fool |
From what I've seen and read, it looks like they did the things that they're trained to do in a situation like that.
There were plenty of people on the plane, so I'm sure more details will come out (one would think). Of course, the news covered it solid for 12 hours with no real details, and now more tragic airplane news has bumped the story. |
Quote:
The general concensus is this thread is that FAM's are given a gun, and told to sit in a plane to babysit it. |
You do realise Al Quada are getting exactly what they wanted. Fear.
|
I think the Air Marshalls should be able to shoot anyone. A beligerant drunk? Shot dead. An arguing couple? A two bagger.
Fuck it, if you don't want their protection then don't fly. They have boats and buses if you choose other modes of transportation. :2 cents: I don't do anything wrong and I'm not hiding anything so it doesn't bother me with all the conspiracy theorist's "Big Brother" bullshit. Don't be a terrorist or do bad shit and you have nothing to worry about. Another :2 cents: |

From what I've seen, it looks like they won by a pretty fucking loooong way. |

One thing can be counted on, if there is an interpretation that makes the US look bad, that is the one you will go with. |
All we can do is speculate here, none of us were on this plane.
If someone gets up on a plane and yells gun/bomb/ala akbar they deserve to be shot plain and simple. I for one feel alot more secure knowing that these authorities didn't fuck around. It also puts out a big warning to criminals and terrorists who think that hijacking planes could be easy. I feel sorry that the guy had mental problems, but it was his job to take his medication and he alone is responsible for his own actions. The authorities were trained to do their job and they did it well. All the bleeding hearts would feel differently if they or one of their family were on that plane. DH |
