My fiance's x-mas bonus almost HALF gone... where? TAXES!!
 

My fiance got a $1400 x-mas bonus from her work... which was pretty sweet. That'll go towards some nice presents for family... we thought.

But no.

$500 in federal taxes later (plus other things like insurance and health care).... and we have $800.

It's still $800... I'm not going to complain about getting an x-mas bonus no matter what amount, but the fact that the government, as bad as it is already, taxes a "bonus".. especially by that much is just sickening.

I vote that they change their name from "government" to "scrooge"

That's a pisser man. Would be easier to work around if it was a small business (many write bonuses off as petty cash)

The ONE good thing about that happening Stuart, is your bonus is usually calculated at a higher rate of income than is normally made, so she probably paid MORE than she should have. So at the end of the year, you'll at least get a little bit of it back. None of the interest though.

In Denmark people at my income level are paying 65% in taxes... So...

I don't know how it is in Canada but in the US when we had bonus checks coming, HR would let us up our deductions so that check wasn't hit so hard. Even if we didn't, we'd get whatever "extra" was deducted for having a large check all at once back when we did our taxes for that year.

Steve Lightspeed once gave us a motorcycle as a bonus. Taxes weren't taken out; I got scewed the next year by the IRS. (Still have the bike though!)

That sucks Stuart. Hard to know which party to blame, since both Liberals and Conservatives have been in power often enough to have fucked up the tax rate so bad.

i think it's ok for the taxes to be high, economy wise, taxes here are like 10% and our govt struggle. just to look at it on a different angle.

I'd like to pay taxes on a cafeteria scenario.

I don't have kids, so you can refund me that.

I don't use any social services.

The street lights that I pay for are no where near my house.

I don't use welfare, never have and plan never to.

Social Security? Let me save up for my own retirement, if i had that money to invest I'd have enough to retire on already.
