Nikon D70s or Canon???

Need advice from those in the know!

I have read all the details about both Nikon D70s/D50 and the Canon EOS 300D. From what I can tell, the Nikon D70s is better in terms on reviews quality but I would like your opinion if you have used either of these digital cameras.

Thanks

Canon ... better quality!

Lia19 12-08-2005 01:27 AM

D-70 has always been good for me. :thumbsup

Turboface 12-08-2005 01:55 AM

Yo Zorg! How goes it?

TurboAngel dropped my camera the other day and I just went out and got the Sony CyberShot DSC-W7

I highly recommend it. There's a $50 rebate on it right now as well.

i would go with canon

I have always shot with Nikons, film & digital. If you have glass already that should help the decision. Either way if you are not sure basically you will most likely be happy with either so go to the store and check both out....

Pre ordered the d200. Can't wait.

they pretty much the same...
I use Canon EOS 20D, works good for me!

Zorgman 12-08-2005 08:04 AM

Thanks Guys, I might go get the Nikon D70s. Upgrade later on.

Go with the Canon 300D. You can upgrade the Firmware (for free) and, basically, turn it into a 10D.

I've been a Canon guy for years, but I just purchased the Nikon D70, Its a far better camera! The image buffer alone makes it worth while. The Canon buffer holds like 8 pics the Nikon, I've never run out of buffer yet. Optics are great and the features even better. I'm a Nikon guy now for sure.

Nikon D70s.. I have the D70 also. Basically they are the same camera, but the D70s has updated firmware and a bigger preview screen. I dont like Canon. For one, once you buy one, you are stuck with it since the Lenses are not interchangable as Nikon lenses are. Nikon has far superious glass also. Canon has focus issues also and it takes soem serious time to get familiar with all the features to make it work as it should. I have extensive use with NIkon.... for 20 plus yeaers now and this D70s is just a great product. Its fast, accurate and it does what you want it to do.

Just a sample shot from a few days ago.

depends what you want.

Get the d70 over the 300D, but the 350D measures up to the d70 nicely.

It's going to come down to what you want in the camera.
Canon glass is generally accepted as being better than nikon's, but if you're not shooting billboards, you're not going to notice the difference.

Shooting wideangle? You've got no choice but Canon and full frame (5D, 1Ds, 1DsMII)

Want to nick your friend's lenses? choose a body that you can put them on :)

Umm.. what where we talking about again?

mikesouth 12-08-2005 10:26 AM

I have said it before and I will say it again the biggest diff is reliability

if you shoot in a harsh environment like outdoors in the desert, at the beach etc...you want the Nikon...period end of story

if you shoot only in studio then the real differences in the two are the buffering

MandyBlake 12-08-2005 10:27 AM

we have the canon 20d and its wonderful

Marshal 12-08-2005 10:47 AM

Canon definitely!

Grapesoda 12-08-2005 10:49 AM

think long term needs because your going to be investing in glass, my glass cost me $1,000-$2,000 per lens because I use quality glass. the main difference being that Nikon supposedly has a better flash system, and that canon does have a 'FF' like the 5D. other than that not much difference really . . . Look into the D50 and the D200 for the Nikon stuff and the 20D and the 5D for canon stuff. Get a good constant stop 2.8 zoom and off ya go!!

it looks nice but I'd grab a nikon before that

Doctor Dre 12-08-2005 10:53 AM

Canon has made a good job marketing themselves... very good ... BUT

every good photographer I know, that respect himself and tried both, likes the Nikon better.

B2BwithJoeD 12-08-2005 01:30 PM

We're using Nikon D70s - fast, easy, no problems - great results. It was recommended by JFK :1orglaugh Get the SB-800 flash though, depending on your use.

plyndrty 12-08-2005 01:34 PM

I never used a Canon but I have two D70's and they take a pounding from me and no problems...

BigRod 12-08-2005 01:51 PM

I use the D70s its a slick camera!
