times i wish i had insurance lol

Spunky 12-07-2005 10:15 PM

Poor little girl..what will the tubes do?

Sly 12-07-2005 10:16 PM

Tubes aren't a big deal.

BUT, you have a family with a little baby and no insurance? Thats a no-no. You should look into that right away. At least get insurance for your baby.

chazer 12-07-2005 10:17 PM

it's nice being canadian.

yeah yeah i know
you sound like my father lol
hey we have gerber life insurance on her for when she gets older :P
I have pamplets laying around - but all the companys i am lookin at barely pay anything and cover praticly ZERO hospital stays

the tubes are suppose to drain extra fluid out of the ears
not sure on the whole thing

HeadPimp 12-07-2005 10:27 PM

Having kids before you can afford insurance??? That is pretty retarded...

Sly 12-07-2005 10:27 PM

Chris, check out this site or many other similar sites for available packages: http://www.ehealthinsurance.com

I just ran a search for family plans assuming I had a wife and baby, found packages starting at around $125 monthly. Of course you'll need to find a package that fits your family best. Not having insurance when you have a small child is just plain stupid. You would hate yourself if something came up and she couldn't get proper treatment because you never bought insurance.

Damn I should become an insurance salesman, haha.

Dude you don't know me but get a second opinion and then a third if you have to. Lots of babies get ear infections often especially when you get water in their ear. Tubes "aren't a big deal" but they aren't a walk in the park either. You have the internet in front of you, do some research.

chadglni 12-07-2005 10:36 PM

Anyone smoking around them and going to bed with a bottle can bring them on too.

gornyhuy 12-07-2005 10:46 PM

Don't sweat it too much though... in the greater scheme of things this is not a big deal and she'll get through it just fine.

i had 6 pairs of tubes during my life time

my hearing is kinda slighty fucked up from scarring and I have a hole in my inner ear that wont close, so when water gets in there it hurts like a bitch.

tubes suck ass

dude how many kids you got?

damn man. i thought i had my hands full.

chadglni 12-07-2005 11:26 PM

Man I'm telling you do some research. I know it's banged into everyone to trust doctors but they don't give 2 shits about you. Tubes are hardly ever needed and they can cause problems you don't want to be responsible for.

It's in their blood. They are taught a certain way all of their life so yeah they believe what they are saying. If you spent 5 minutes online you might reconsider this blind trust that can cause permanent damage. It's sort of like doctors telling you to give your kid tylenol and aspirin for fever that isn't dangerous. It shuts you up so who cares if it can make your kid retarded or kill them from time to time.

Your kid your life.

pocketkangaroo 12-07-2005 11:31 PM

If you aren't doing the insurance route, I suggest getting a package that only covers emergency. It is usually cheap but has a high deductible and only covers major things. In any case, it is a nice security blanket in case something bad happens to you and you end up with a six figure hospital stay.

Hope everything works out with the baby!

Like I said, your ass not mine. But since you asked what you could do for starters you could look into it and find out that it's COMMON and that parents and doctors overreact to it in most cases. You could also look at what sticking tubes into your kids eardrums could do long term vs what ear infections that are treated could do long term. You know, research before you blindly put your child under the knife. Since you seem to have zero interest in any possibility she doesn't need them go ahead and get them. Hope nothing goes wrong so she won't blame you for the rest of your life.

Cheers. :upsidedow

I assume you mean you have life insurance policies on you and your wife that will go to her as there is no reason to have a life insurance policy on her.

About the tubes, my son was advised by an ear/nose/throat doc to have it done, which he did when he was about one and no probs and rarely any ear infections after that.

About the ehealthinsurance, I use them...for self employed they suck generally. Don't go with the cheap ass one, pay at least $500 a month for family otherwise the coverage/deductables are pathetic. :2 cents:

my wife did it up :)

bro you want me to wrap her in a fucking bubble?
I had tubes when I was a baby
my wife had em
her sister had em
it is a common thing in our family .....

I have LOOKED INTO IT

EVERYTHING you do has risk

Hell me taking her out shopping has a risk of some sick fuck kidnapping her right from me

Me letting her crawl around the carpet and letting her pull her self up on things and falling down has risk

You are one of those people who look at the bad thing of everything dont you ?

Final cost? What are you talking about? You mean if she dies you have insurance on her to help cover any expenses?

Having life insurance on a baby but not health insurance is pretty weird. Actually its kind of creepy.

Another thing, $50 a month is $600 a year. Multiple that by 20 years and you have $12,000. So essentially you're sticking in $12k to get back $15k, there are much better ways to invest the money with better returns. Hell I think a basic savings account would yield higher returns.

the plan was given to us as a gift from my father and step mom
they paid so many years onto it and they told us we had to keep paying monthly so we are :)

here is the break down
i was pretty damn wrong on my numbers lol

$30,000 is what she has now

at age 21 providing no drug abuse and a list of other shit it doubles

and at age 28 it goes to 300k

and it always builds cash value
you can read about it at www.gerberlife.com

SmokeyTheBear 12-08-2005 12:15 AM

i got tubes... diving accident ... fuckin things are a miracle...

BigBen 12-08-2005 12:19 AM

I had to get tubes twice - once when I was very young and again around 8 or 9. They're not really a big deal, but they told me not to get any water in my ears so I wore earplugs when bathing.

As for getting a second/third opinion, I would have to agree. I ended up seeing some of the top specialists which decided to go with the surgery.

Veterans Day 12-08-2005 12:24 AM

rollin with no insurance is a huge part of why americans pay a fuck load for their insurance :2 cents:

Not to mention you are playing with fire big time

adultchica 12-08-2005 12:30 AM

Hey Chris good luck with it I have a friend who's small baby got the tubes put in.

They actually helped a lot! Don't sweat it. It doesn't matter how you pay for them,
as long as she gets hooked up!

The baby that got them put in of my friend's stopped having the chronic ear infections~!

adultchica 12-08-2005 12:32 AM

Of course, I do think you should get a second opinion too. Just because my friend's kid stopped having problems doesn't mean yours will.

lazycash 12-08-2005 02:03 AM

I think you'd be much better off taking that $50/month you're spending on the life plan and upgrading your health insurance from that $115 plan you are considering. Get a decent health insurance plan or you'll end up paying far more in the long run.

budz 12-08-2005 02:13 AM

Good luck, I know you'll make the right decision! :)

P.S
he growing quick enough for you? LOL

TurboAngel 12-08-2005 02:30 AM

Please be carefull my god daughter had them put in and everything was just fine at first, then the probs came. The tubs dislodged and one had moved to her inner ear about 3-4 years after, she then went to the Dr. and they "couldn't find the tubes" I don't get that but hey I'm not a Dr. She then went for about 2 years with no probs and then boom she had to have her adenoses and something else removed. Then a year affter that hey found the tube as she had to have her inner ear operated on again for the 2nd time. Now she has lost all hearing now. :( So please don't ruch to do this IMO. I would hate to have you and her to end up with the same probs.

:(

tristan_D 12-08-2005 06:08 PM

babies are very much delicate when it comes to infection. I hope it turns out well.

I had tubes when I was a kid for the exact same reason. No big deal but I remember going into the hospital and going to sleep after I got a shot. Not bad but I can also remember the doctor taking them out and that sort of sucked. Basically a pair of pliers in your ear and some blood, at least in my case.
I hope she does fine and does not remember a thing. I think I was about 6 years old when that happend.
