haha - CNN cracks me up

Discussion about the shooting in Miami, but to paraphrase:

Cops are trained that if you are going to shoot someone to protect others, you shoot to kill, not injure. This guy was reportedly injured, is this something we should be concerned about?

Mr Pheer 12-07-2005 01:20 PM

Its impossible to shoot someone without injuring them :winkwink:

StuartD 12-07-2005 01:22 PM

Shoot to kill next time dammit! Otherwise, don't shoot at all!

I believe her concern was that they only injured him as opposed to killing him.

How was your fishing trip?

I dont know anything about the story, but maybe the cop was in that "shooting in the general vicinity of the bad guy" mode. That seems to happen alot, bullets will hit to the left of the target, to the right, maybe above, and one or two will hit the target, somewhat.

A cop here was getting rammed by a stolen SUV, so his partner shot at the SUV, and killed... the passenger! That's what I mean by the "shooting in the general vicinity of the bad guy" mode.

They are reporting he is dead. So that is a bit more excessive then injured.

A cop, maybe. A Federal Agent, I would hope not.

i was trained to shoot to stop the threat. but we were trained to shoot center mass, which in most cases is a death causing shot. i dont know the details, gotta turn on the t.v. unless the guy presented some sort of detonator, just saying he had a bomb is not enough to pull the trigger. in todays day and age, maybe it is now acceptable. he deserved to get shot for not hitting the ground and giving up. think about it. you say you have a bomb. air marshall produces handgun and points it at you and obviously has been trained to tell you to put your hands up and get down on your knees. assuming he made furitive or threatening gestures towards a passenger or the air marshall, he deserved to get taken out. i can't see the air marshall shooting someone who gave up or put their hands up when asked. i'm sure the marshall knew that shooting him could trigger the explosive device.
