Why do young women walk with their arms crossed?
 

Guys, I'm sure most if not all of you saw some 20's-30's girls walking on the street with their arms crossed. I tend to notice this alot and find it fascinating and puzzling at the same time. It can't be to keep them warm because they do this in warm summer days too. I've heard alot of theories about this, everything from them not feeling comfortable with their breasts shape/size and trying to hide it, trying to reduce the 'bounce' when walking, wanting to give a 'stay away' message, to being introvert/insecure or feeling threatened. They also tend to look at the ground right in front of them when walking like this. :upsidedow

Why do you think they do it? This is something you never see guys doing lol.

For all the girls here, if you do this (that is, if you're aware you do it) please chime in and give us some pointers to try and solve this perplexing mystery. :stoned

Insecurities, leave me alone, matches up. Wonder if a girl that does this is single and is happy that way or has a guy waiting for her at home and is giving a 'i'm taken' signal.

I would think some are trying to hide the perky nipple beamage.

Not sure about the bounce, most I seen had small perky breasts, not much to bounce around.

They have been doing it since high school when they carried their books to cover their new titties.

I remember Carol McDonald from the 7th and 8th grade. Had the biggest tits in school and wore a windbreaker every day, everywhere she went so people could not admire them.

I had never made the connection.... back then I just thought it was a sissy way of holding the books. :error

I think their mothers teach them to do it . . . has been going on for generations.

Sometimes i do either cause i'm cold or i don't want guys to start saying things at me because of my tits (since here most of the guys do it)

i have 42-DD's so i've always done that for the less-bounce reason.
every girl is different...some might have been raped & now shes scared for any guy to look at her (or breasts), maybe shes sad, she wants to give off the dont-approach-me vibe...who knows.

I have big boobages too so I walk that way sometimes to reduce bouncing

Many reaons. I would say mine is from insecurity (long story) and whenever its fucking cold. I hate the cold. But I don't do it while I walk unless I'm holding my jacket on. Normally I do it when i'm standing still or talking to someone. Dunno why it has to only be then.

Also a good deal of women have "nervous habits." They need something to do with their arms or hands when they are thinking or trying to concentrate on something. I play with my hair most of the time but some women may need to cross their arms and hold them against their bodies in order to concentrate. Sounds wierd but it is true.

body language as in do not approach me. not all chicks are out in public wanting to meet and talk to guys.

I ALWAYS walk like this, it has nothing to do with boobs, I never thought about that one before...

I think it's because I'm always in a bad mood and am subconsciously telling people to stay the fuck away from me but that I'm not conscious of it.

I just wanna be left the fuck alone whether i'm single or not.

I have a bf right now but even when i was single i would still walk like that, lol.

I dont want to be approached, I admit im rude as hell, if someone comes up to me i would usually just ignore them and not even talk back. I'm extremely anti social and just hate people in general.

I think mostly people can tell i want to be left alone though. I always have a super pissed off look on my face and i think i generally give off a vibe to leave me the hell alone.

I had this habit already since I was a teen and I still do it, I bet it probably does come from insecurity too.... I was insecure back then and still am today. I think I'm also just really anti social i just hate people, perhaps its a way of shielding or protecting myself.

Looks like the biggest reason for walking like this is insecurity and not wanting to draw attention to you and be approached by guys on the street. Those of you that say it's also because of the cold and to stop the bounce, I think those are just excuses you give to yourself to justify the behaviour, because you walk like that all year long no matter how hot or cold it is, and many girls with small firm breasts also walk like this (even thought that's not the case for most of you in this thread). Subconsciously the real reason may be down to insecurity but you're just not aware of it, not like phogirl69 anyway (nice post btw). :)

I was thinking about this earlier today, and I think the equivalent of this behavior for guys is walking with their hands in their pockets. Must be down to insecurities too, something along the lines of wanting to make their 'package' less noticeable. :winkwink:

Honestly, I'm not sure which position you are talking about because I don't think I do it... or I do t and I don't even notice.

I do know that there's a scientific reason for why boys and girls carry their books differently in school. Girls carry them against them on their stomach/chest and boys carry them at their sides (usually). I vaguely remember hearing a story about this years ago... but there's actually a difference in male and female elbows and the way they 'naturally' bend. I forget the exact explaination, but I do know it has something to do with elbows :1orglaugh

Women tend to carry things like they are holding a baby against them and men tend to carry things like a football.

most likely more of an insecurity with thier shape-size and making themselves feel better about by hiding it.

I do it mostly when I don´t know what to do with my hands or when I´m cold.

Seriously you were right in my case. I hated the idea of my nipples showing and would push them back down or hide them. I was afraid for ages that I had trained them not to perk up as much from doing that but they eventually started working again :)

I do it if I don't want someone to look at my boobs. If someone is staring and freaking me out.
Other than that I only do it if I'm cold.
