SEO question ? ( RANT )

If you click this link and scroll to the bottom

http://caught-masturbating-archive.notbad.net.ru/

You will notice the website is scraping the text from gfy on the fly. not a copy.

I noticed this while searching for a unique text that was on one of my pages and was suprised there were several thousand pages that had copied my "unique" text that had only JUST been placed on my website.

It appears this guy is scraping websites ( on the fly ) for all the text on a page and making a duplication of the text..

So my question is, does this guy having thousands of pages with my complete front pages text on them "de-valuate" the relevency/ranking of my site ?

SmokeyTheBear 12-05-2005 02:37 AM

if you see a message "no info yet"

try clicking this link

http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...mail%2Ecom+gfy

then click the fifth choice

http://caught-masturbating-archive.notbad.net.ru/

Depends. Does the site text he scraped from you include links to your site?

no , just the text

SmokeyTheBear 12-05-2005 02:41 AM

like if you look on the example it basically crawls the target website "gfy" and takes whatever text it can find and displays it below the ads.. ( in this example it displays the "not logged in" because its a bot crawl )

Relevancy depends not on the quantity, but the quality of the text, so while your text may be high for a certain term, his stealing your text, and commingling it with thousands of other front page text will actually decrease his relevancy, not yours.

That's why you build one site for one term/niche, and keep every word, every title, every image name relevant to that site's niche.

Spam and Jam type scraping will not work.

I realise that, my question was more about how he was doing it.

If his site is scraping my site on the fly and google is picking it up then technically if his site gets spidered first then my text looks like the duplicate text right ..

he isnt "co-mingling" the text he is just scraping the ONE site at a time.

Duplicate content problems happen when you duplicate your own content on your own site over, and over. Google doesn't penalize sites with duplicate content acrossed sites (unless on same IP), otherwise why would they love RSS so much :upsidedow

Duplicate content isnt settled by who had it online first, even though his site may get spidered first you can still easily take authority on the content. If your page is the most authoritive for the text, it will cause all others with the text to be ignored or filtered to an extent.

Many times the source isnt findable when searching for it because another site has takin authority in the engines for the text/content.

Unfortunately that statement isnt quite true.

Duplicate content is the downfall of most of our industries page builders.

You're talking about an exact rip, this isn't even close.

ok so my next question is then , what the fuck is this guy doing ? thousands of domains all doing the same sort of thing to almost every site.. does it work ? it must as he is doing it "en masse". I dont quite get how gfy correlates to "caught masturbating archive " i guess it just must show up in a search result somewhere

No im talking about the statement that dup content is when you copy your own sites or content across your own sites.

Duplicate content is duplicate content, be it on your own sites or across the internet. If you can pull out a nice sentence from your site , put it in quotation marks and find that exact content on other sites, its dup..plain and simple

The case shown of course it wont hurt, cause there is so little (mixed in with the other dup content..lol) Its hurting nobody but himself.

Now like chio stated, the engines like rss, but that in itself is another discussion. Its pretty easy to see why it works, for one, the content being fed across your site isnt dup yet, cause as it appears on the main site, it also appears accross 100, and by the time the bot hits again, it has changed again, to something else it hasnt saw...etc etc.

Wanna get sexy with it. Run some rss feeds off of message boards that dont get spidered deep. Fresh niche content that isnt found anywhere else.

I see 3 or 4 of my ranking domains turn up on sites like this all the time, they used to run rss feeds of yahoo and msn rankings then copy and update text off those rankings. So a black cocks page would run text from the msn and yahoo serps for black cock, which always change up quite abit and gave them unique (somewhat) content.

Money, no he isnt making shit off that.

Yah i have seen that before too but this one actually pulls the content as the page is called on the fly..

If anyone is curious if he is hitting your site , search your logs for 216.195.47.98

I just redirected his scrapes to a little message that wil now be inserted in his pages :)

Linkster 12-05-2005 05:05 AM

He put about 260k pages out there in Google - uses a little $39 program
that does it in about 5 minutes then just uploads them
If you really wanna find out who it is - here's his alt com id (AFF sub)
