Anybody have a BOSE sytem at home?

which one? how is your setup? and what do you have to say about it?

SilentKnight 12-03-2005 07:14 PM

A pair of Bose 201's as front monitors for our home theatre - but the rest of the system is Kenwood.

chupachups 12-03-2005 07:16 PM

I have a lifestyle whatever speaker system. Very nice sounding stuff

Shooting_Maniac1 12-03-2005 07:19 PM

I do... The AR-15's

Love them off my 60 inch Samsung DLP. I dont use the Bose amp or dvd though. I think they are a bit under powered using the Bose amp system. I bought a Harmon Kardon amp to run them.... fucking perfection!

Value on the dollar its hard to match them. You can spend a ton more for sure, but bang for the buck, its hard to come close to them.

MattO 12-03-2005 07:37 PM

Here's a good article about BOSE

The review on this page is directed towards the Acoustimass-15, one of Bose's most popular systems, and holds truths to the entire Acoustimass and Lifestyle series products as well.

Article?

Who the fuck buys a speaker system according to some reviewer's article?

I put my stock in hearing them for myself.

Well I decided myself that they sound like shit while selling them. I sold plenty of suckers those systems for 4 years. (I even have a set in my attic that BOSE gave me for outstanding sales during a holiday event)

evildick 12-03-2005 08:00 PM

If you want small speakers you would be better off buying some decent satellites and getting a good sub. The "bass module" they include with the Bose is rubbish. For instance, you can get a Klipsch Cinema 10 system for less than $1500 that blows away anything Bose makes in their compact systems.

Used to use a pair of 802s powered by a crown amp as the front field for my system - they were a piece of shit as bose really never got past their old PA application/ DJ wide field designs - the projection was great for larger applications but they never did figure out the "home sized applications" - still looking for something better than the JBLs Im using now

SinisterStudios 12-03-2005 09:05 PM

I love my lifestyle system, ive had it for 6 years now and i still love the sound from it. Ill be getting a new one with my new plasma, and it will be another bose system

this is true. pay more for the name. not even comparable to real audiophile equipment.

OY 12-03-2005 09:17 PM

I have BOSE system set up, but I want to go wireless. What are the best solutions out there for that right now? Price does not really matter - I want the best....

??

bose sucks. don't go for that stuff. Home theater get yourself something more high end. Klipsch is a good one to start with. RF5 or a RF7 system.

xxxjay 12-04-2005 12:27 AM

Get the sounddeck with an IPod -- it's all you will ever need.

buddyjuf 12-04-2005 12:41 AM

I already bought the Bose Lifestyle 38.

Retails for about 3300$US here (4000$CAD), I got an insane deal on it
gotta say I really love it so far

http://images.cinenow.com/artimg/uk/...festyle_38.jpg

I used to have a klipsch setup (computer ones converted to fit my dvd player), and the bose is much much better

rml1608 12-04-2005 12:45 AM

Bought my BOSE about 4 years ago ...

The base is utter shit, it was pretty solid at first but as a year or two went on it went to hell... Three years, bad... Four years, bass is shot

Also, the rear speakers don't carry the sound effects like they used to - acoustics of the room may have some effect as it's in a different house, but it shouldn't be that dramatic - It's a solid layout overall for that type of system in the new pad.

If I had to buy again, it wouldn't be Bose ... If I had $3K + tax right now I wouldn't buy a new bose system... But I don't have huge regrets I bought it or anything ..

buddyjuf 12-04-2005 12:46 AM

I also had the option to get the harmon kardon reciever and pretty much set it up myself, but I was told by many people that the bose system works in perfect harmony with itself, and the bose reciever has won great awards for its engineering and features and what not...

I must say, having a 20gb HD in there is really good to have.
The only bad thing, no DVI or HDMI... :(

buddyjuf 12-04-2005 12:48 AM

All the reviews I have read about the lifestyle models say that it is an amazing system, except really overpriced. I had the opportunity to get it below cost price directly from bose, cost me literally half what the store was asking for it, including taxes and everything.

So far I am very impressed.

I also had the option of buying a huge PolkAudio set, but I went for the bose because of the insane deal I had

You can't compare Klipsch computer speakers to their home audio lines. What are the computer speakers worth, $250?

Another thing with that Bose is there is almost no expandability. Try hooking up a VCR, some game systems, satellite receiver, etc. For that price I can't believe they don't include decent video switching capabilities. I can't believe how much they overcharge for those tiny cubes.

That is one SWEET fucking reciever!

Ditch the Bose scpeakers and get paradigm system 7's though. You'll thank me later.

What you are describing is very common for Bose. They are great sounding when NOT broken in yet, as they break in (where most good speakers sound better with age) they begin to deteriorate. We used 1000 watt Bose Accoustimas pa self powered speaker cabinets in my old band and at first they sounded kick fucking ass! Properly mixed the band sounded like we were actually playing a cd the sound was soooo good. However as time went on the bottom end started getting floppy and mids pretty much dissapeared. $10,000 system down to the quality of cheap $300 pair of Cerwin Vega's pretty much in 3 years.

Raven 12-04-2005 08:00 AM

I've got a Bose system in my car and the sound is okay....

For home, I prefer Miller & Kreisel speakers and sub woofer and Denon for our receiver.

It's served us well. Very clear sound and the system has lasted for several years.

MrJackMeHoff 12-04-2005 08:59 AM

Bose is overrated garbage.. If you want good speakers for a decent price check out Polk Audio.. If you want high end shit well thats a whole diff ballgame.

Thanks and yes... I love it. It also drives those Bose pretty well, much better then the amp and receiver they sell with it in the Lifestyle set up... thats why I mentioned above not to buy there amp. So far.. about a year and a half later my system is still cranking. However, I did just buy a 27 inch Samsung LCD flatscreen for my office and I was thinking of moving the Bose system to that and then buying a Polk Audio Surround Sound set up for the 60" Samsung DLP in my livingroom and using the Harmon Kardon amp to drive that system.

Maybe Santa will be good ot me this year.. hehe

Those Klipsch speakers you had were for computer not a home theater. Big diff.

TaDoW 12-04-2005 09:45 AM

I have a B&W 600 series setup... Bose can't even hold a candle, then again ... they cost a helluva lot more

:thumbsup
