Digital Camera Problem - Photographers Only
 

I'm Having a bitch of time with my S1 today, It started acting up about a month ago .. I was out on a Teen Shoot when it rained Slightly. Later that after noon The camera kept showing an error when I was shooting with studio flashes and the Nikon AS-15 (slave adapter). The error was F--. No F stop .. An how by the next day the camera started functioning normally. So i chalked it off to slight moisture in the camera.

The camera has been firing normally since, however I hadn't had a studio shoot till today. The first two shoots started nicely, but on the last set, The camera started acting up, First with this slight blurr off to the side, then the blur started expanding even further.

It's pretty obvious that the camera has to go to Fuji for a major overhaul. In the meanwhile I got a D100 but am seriously looking to a Nikon D2X.

any ideas on what is causing this ? And maybe a quick fix?

My back up camera stays at my Clients Studio, Be it only 4 minutes away, but never the less it was a real bummer to cut the shoot day short.

no idea, looks like it's def. a repair job.
I'd suspect that it's water that's moving in the elements, but i have no idea :D

However it shoots fine without the sync cable .. and I was able to do 400 pics, 2 sets with it earlier (witht he sync cable) ...

if this was a film camera I'd say the film isn't advancing far enough or the gate is late ...

Ok . with the aid of another Photog On ICQ .. We figured out the prob and the fix ...

If anyone is interested ...

The problem was dude to a sycro problem, in simple terms the Sync cable wasn't in tune with the shutter speed .. hence missing the open gate .. Trying different things I slwoed down my shutter .. Till I lost the blur completely.

Now that I think about I had changed my Shutter and Fstop to get a more Contrast Image and more lively colors .. the Shutter change was too 250, Whilest the other sets were done at 125

Glad you solved the mystery. I like the tie the model is wearing.

All SLR cameras have a mirror that lifts before the shutter curtain or Iris opens. You must have the camera sync'ed to 1/60th of a second for the timing of the storbe to match the raising of the mirror and the opening of the shutter curtain. Your problem looks like a sync issue. Try adjusting the shutter speed to anything 1/60th of a second of slower. I would go down to like 1/30th just to make sure than step up.

Hey Vid - thanks for hitting me up on ICQ about your problem. Unfortunately, I've been away and didn't get your message. Sounds like you found the problem and are back in the game. Accidently moving the shutterspeed dial to a faster flash sync-speed then your camera allows is probably something all shooters have delt with at least once. Back in the day....before digital, you found out only after you sent the film in for processing that you had your shutterspeed dial set too fast. These days with digital technology, there is no waiting. The learning curve for a photographer learning photography today is much shorter then when I was learning. If only digital was available way back then, I'd be miles ahead of where I am now :Oh crap

Oh yea....just wanted to tell you that it might be a good idea to find out (if you haven't already) how fast a shutterspeed you can use when shooting with flash. Different cameras sync up with flash at different shutterspeeds. Sometimes you'll need a faster shutterspeed so it's always nice to know what your limits are. On my Canon 1D Mark II cameras, I can sync as fast as 250th of a second. Anything faster then that and I get what you got with your pics.

Exactly ! ... The S1 is based on the Nikon F60 .. Who's max sync shutter is 125 ... As soon as I reduced my Shutter I got the Image back .. Totally forgot about the Sometimes digital closely mimics Analog. Especially in the older cams such as Fuji S1, Nikon D1 and D1x
