2257 and P.O Boxes

Looking around many people are still using P.O boxes for their 2257 record holder. They are just making themselves stand out to be targets for the goverment.

Screaming 12-01-2005 08:02 AM

Alot of people dont think they are going to go after anyone over the 2257 laws.

Talk about poking a sleeping bear. They not only make themselves a target for the government, they also almost assure themselves a speedy conviction.
Records should be kept at the place of business or at least that is they way we understand it and the way we do it.

Jail sucks... :winkwink:

Exactly if you aren't going to truly comply you might as well use a mail drop instead of a P.O Box, at least it would look a little legitimate.

RawAlex 12-01-2005 09:06 AM

PO boxes are not a good idea - even if they appear to be a real address but turn out to be a mailboxes etc or ups store or whatever. If you are not working "in the box" and there is nobody there to handle 2257 requests, then you are in violation.

Some people don't think that the laws apply to them.

They won't. It's just a tool to go after the extreme teen sites and what they consider obscene. They just want to impose their morals. It's not about who's an easy target.

andrej_NDC 12-01-2005 10:31 AM

I update my info to show my Hotel room in Cuba.

I always travel with my 2257 documents... :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

BTW, having a small $ 275.00 office with nobody in it doesn't solve the problem :2 cents:

V_RocKs 12-01-2005 12:03 PM

I am waiting for some 2257 storm troopers...

Seems like some of you have not read all the proposed rules regarding this.
Though poboxes are a big no no and many use them, then again many use company names instead of a custodian, and some use email addresses ect.
All a big no no.

actually the last thing you want it them with a few wins under their belts. that tells the public that everyone in the industry is bad, and it will be easier for them to get convictions on others later.

and are you there and available as stated in the rules? just having an office for an address isn't complying either.

don't forget all the records, etc, etc.

davecummings 12-01-2005 12:15 PM

If you think waiting for the hassles to begin is "whatever", you ought to be me with my neck sticking out miles on that law suit:-)))))

Yeah those things annoy me too.
I feel, if I need to be in compliance, then everyone needs to be.
