canon eos 5d
Who has such camera? Tell me how it to shoot with. Or better not to spend money on such camera and a bit later choose Canon EOS 1Ds Mark 2 Digital? 8000$? Cost to much for me now!
Do I really need "Full frame sensor"?

Originally developed by Canon, this high-resolution, 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor sets the standard for its class, featuring a remarkable 12.8 million effective pixels for a maximum recorded resolution of 4,368 x 2,912 pixels. Second-generation on-chip noise reduction is enhanced for easier use with a choice of two modes: ?Auto?, to engage auto noise reduction when noise is detected; ?ON?, to engage noise reduction for all exposures of 1 sec. or longer. From smooth gradations and wide ISO speed range to effective suppression of false colors and ultra-precise white balance, this sensor matches the image quality found in the flagship model of Canon?s EOS digital SLR lineup, EOS-1Ds Mark II. These refinements are the result of sophisticated DIGIC II imaging engine technology.

Thanxx!

Fucking killer. I want 1.

woj 12-01-2005 07:21 AM

That thing is awesome, how much does it go for?

woj 12-01-2005 07:26 AM

here is a review of it: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos5d/
apparently sells for: $3299.00

Chio 12-01-2005 07:33 AM

CMOS? not ccd? I don't know much about cameras but I thought ccd was much better. I have some network cameras, and the ccd ones kick ass compared to the cmos ones.

Brad Gosse 12-01-2005 07:41 AM

I have the 20D (8.2mp not full frame sensor) and I love it. I can only imagine how great the 5d is.

Chio,
The CMOS is going to be less sharp than the CCD. Also canon has a pretty aggressive denoising algo. But they still are pretty nice and you can apply good 3rd party photoshop sharpening actions in post to help a bit. If you like the tack sharp fuji/nikon look you may be more interested in the DSLR's they produce. I've been waiting for the full frame Canon 5D so it'll be really nice to finally have this!

I have to ask: do you have any shooting experience? If not, then the 5D or 1DsII could turn out to be a very expensive toy...

Unless you really need the features of the 1DsMII, the 5D is gonna be great.

I have the 1Ds - if I'd had the chance to get the 5D at the time, I would have.

The fact of the matter is - if you're shooting up this end of the scale, and don't need stuff like AI servo and WiFi etc etc, the 5D is going to be perfect.

tony286 12-01-2005 09:29 AM

its a great camera but the big question is what are you shooting for the web or print? If print I think its a strong buy.

I have Canon EOS 20 D too, Canon EOS 350 D. So 5D is good but the best is CANON EOS 1 Ds Mark2. It is cutting edge!

Doctor Dre 12-01-2005 10:40 AM

Gee I wonder what are the next stepts... I've shot with a 20D and it was just awesome... I don't know how they can make a much better camera.

latinasojourn 12-01-2005 10:41 AM

my opinion is it is CURRENTLY the best value in a full frame digital SLR.

in fact, it is probably the camera body that has convinced me to abandon nikon (which does not have a FF body at present).

surperb color and speed for the price.

Cool. :) Re-reading your original msg I think you were asking how well it worked for others, not how to shoot with it.

A 5D is the logical upgrade from the 20D. A 1D series camera has a completely different interface.

You should also consider whether you even need to upgrade. :)

The 20Da has a softer (or no?) IR filter, right? How does that go with normal daylight photos?
