"Porn belittles women" (Argument I just got into with someone not in the industry)...

I'm not even sure why I engaged in such an ignorant debate, but it's almost 4:00AM and I'm bored lol. Anyway, I told them that I sell adult sites and they acted like I was the antichrist and said that I should be ashamed of myself condoning men's disrespect towards women, being a woman myself.

I don't like arguing with close minded people, I find going in circles a waste of time... my main argument was, "If porn makes or breaks a man's attitude towards women, then they have more social and emotional issues than omitting porn from society will solve."

Personally, I think mainstream entertainment and the media is a million times more misleading and brainwashing than porn ever could be. MTV and the other sheep herding establishments alike portray girls and women as perfectly thin, flawless, and sultry superheroes.

So, ladies and gentlemen in the industry, does porn belittle women? :error

i don't think it does

I think it is a representation of the amount of control that women have over men.

sonofsam 12-01-2005 02:18 AM

I prefer degrades over "belittle"...and yes it is degrading for women as well as men.

degrade

To lower in moral or intellectual character; debase.

This is not an attempt at preaching to the choir. I know that not everyone has the same beliefs or thoughts, so I'm wondering what those mixed feelings within the industry are. At least from the honest people.

For example, theking stated his opinion above ^ and I'm sure many others share that same view... whether they are willing to admit it or not.

DamageX 12-01-2005 02:29 AM

No more than gay porn belittles men.

MikeyFingaz 12-01-2005 02:50 AM

like i used to tell all the dancers at the stripclub... its not exploitation of women. it is exploitation of a mans wallet...

porn doesn't belittle women. women belittle women.

i tend to think that porn is rather empowering to women, letting them be as sexual as they want.

but whatever, you will never win that debate.

webgurl 12-01-2005 03:32 AM

Yes certain type of porn does . I hate that fucken word belittle ..

The entire market economy of our planet is based on exploitation of one another in some form. Some people get particularly bent out of shape when the thing exploited is sex because they think that sex is dirty and anyone taking pleasure in it should be punished, but ultimately it's all a matter of how much people are willing to give up to be compensated at whatever amount. :2 cents:

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE with your statement. I think women not liking porn is just showing of insecurity! some women ENJOY showing off their bodies! And if we want to get technical about it....if the holyrollers really believe what they read...they will see that God made us to not be ashamed of our bodies. It was never supposed to be that way.
