OSCARS - Russell ripoff - a black day for movies
What a load of shit that was !!!
Sure Denzel is a phenomenal actor :thumbsup but not in that shit movie 'Training Day'. He should have received at least 2 awards previously when he was the best actor. I can't believe he actually took the Oscar for what clearly was a blatant attempt from the academy to make good for 74 years of doing injustice and practicing racial discrimination. Russell made that movie, which received every award except for the best actor, which he clearly deserved. And what the fuck is that movie which Halle received her statue for? Has anybody heard of it? I have followed that industry for many decades and that was the sickest shit ever staged in front of a worldwide audience. Shame on the academy, and shame on anyone who supports that shit. My :2 cents: |
I couldn't agree more, Pete. Cable guy = loose
|
And Crowe ripped off Ed Harris last year winning for his performance in a good, but certainly not great, movie that didn't require a whole lot of depth IMHO. Happens almost every year.
|
:ak47: That's why I don't watch that crap! Who the hell cares if some dumb ass "moviestar" get some dumb ass piece of crap metal? They're just a bunch of overpaid spoiled shits with huge egos! Screww that! :321GFY
|
Its voted on by other actors and academy cohorts, if the black issue is the talk of the town it clouds judgement. Not saying its right but if it is all you hear, you change perspective!
|
"a black day for movies"
HAHAHA. That made me laugh. Halle's an idiot. Thinks she's Rosa Parks or Jackie Robinson or something. |
guys, the BEST ACTOR category is for the price for BEST ACTOR, NOT best movie, whether the movie is crap or not has got NOTHING to do with it.

That particular role did not demand any of Denzels superior qualities which he has displayed so masterfully in other brilliant performances during his career. That movie was average because the actor had no room to make the movie spectacular. Russell had by far a more challenging role that showed qualities he has previously not brought to light, and that?s that. The movie just happens to be as good as his performance, in it's own right! Why else did he win every award leading up to the Oscars? Because the Academy knows something that everyone else managed to overlook, or because they were busy correcting their own mistakes and arrogant oversights? |
fuck that
he never should have won last year, when he was robotic and wooden. reminded me of an Aussie Kevin Costner. so if Denzel gets it for being overlooked, good. At least he has a body of work to back it up. Crowe has one deep flick, and a bunch of action movies. He's a smaller Arnold without the brutal accent. Or mel gibson jr as far as best actress? who cares? how many roles worth a damn do women have each year? 2? 3? Let's face it 90% of the time they are window dressing (wife, girlfriend, mom, victim, etc) Why do you think Meryl Streep has so many awards? because she actually chooses roles, not paychecks. |

And as for Russell not getting a 2nd Oscar....look at how many times it's been accomplished!..(Before Tom Hanks did it in 93' & 94'...it hadn't been done since Spencer Tracy did the double take in 37' & 38')So, the cards werent' stacked in Russell's favor to begin with! Plus, those who are thought of as "Insiders" say the Academy doesn't really like to go that route anyway? Why...hell if I know. But ask yourself...Was his role in "A Beautiful Mind" better then Tom Hanks in "Forrest Gump"....If so, then he (Crowe) deserved it...if not, then fuck it! As for his (Denzel's) 'role' in training day....think about all his past parts....from "Glory" to "Much Ado About Nothing" to "Crimson Tide"...they all had a main theme...now look at "Training Day"....was his role the same? No! It was totally the opposite from all his past parts...Just like Jim Carey doing the "Truman" show after years of being the 'funny dude' in such films as "Liar Liar", "The Mask", "Me, Myself & Irene"...etc, etc. You have to look at the many parts an actor can perform. Shit, I think Jim Carrey should have won the award for "Truman" cuz it was SUCH a departure from his regular stick that it showed he could actually do a 'serious' movie! The same holds true for Denzel...he can actually play a 'bad ass mo fo' and do a good job. (THOUGH, JUST MAYBE, Samuel L Jackson could have gotten away with doing a better job...IMHO) But, hey...this is America and we're ALL entitled to our opinions and that's what makes this god damn USA the bomb country it is. So, if you hate Denzel....that's your decision and I'm not going to change your mind. BUT maybe you'll see things from a different perspective...who knows???? :2 cents: |

I think Denzel deserved it. He's a great actor. When you're comparing two of the best actors in the industry, it really comes down to nothing more than a question of taste. Personally, I like Denzel Washington better than Russel Crowe.
My biggest problem was that David Lynch lost to Opey Cunningham, and that Lord of the Rings lost to A Beautiful Mind. It's proof that the Oscars cater to Hollywood conformists, and do their best to keep outsiders out. Peter Jackson and David Lynch, without a doubt, deserved the top honors. Of course, David Lynch consistently puts out great movies, and consistently is overlooked. At least he was nominated this time, but he deserved better. |

if wil had have got it i would have understood.. It just ruins the whole point of the awards to say that it's for the "body of his work" rather than his performance.. which is the genreal consensus... |

I looooove that "talk to the hand" smiley!!!!!!!! :1orglaugh |
Anybody know what was up with the main man Samuel L. J.?
Why did he not look happy for Sidney Poitier, it stood out for me he wasn't in the videoclip to homor him too. Even Forest W. was in there, as well as every other brother from Hollywood, but NO Samuel. Is he mad of something? |
Marty
Who has the unqualified opinion? You push aside a movie that you say you have never even heard of and just assume that she won the award because she is black. Maybe - but she did also win the SAG award for best actress for the same role - usually a much harder crowd to please - as I am sure you know after having followed the industry for decades. |
- A Beautiful Mind 2001
- Gladiator 2000 - Proof of Life 2000 - Mystery, Alaska 1999 - The Insider 1999 - Breaking Up 1997 - L.A. Confidential 1997 - No Way Back 1996 - Rough Magic 1995 - The Quick and the Dead 1995 - Virtuosity 1995 - For the Moment 1994 - The Sum of Us 1994 - The Silver Stallion 1993 - Proof 1992 - Romper Stomper 1992 You consider ALL these films deep? (I actually enjoyed all of these that I have seen - but it doesn't mean he's the greatest actor) I can't see arguing with you, since it obvious you are a Crowe fan, which is cool. And look at it this way, he's already up one on Tom Cruise, who tries to win one every other movie. |
think about who votes for the oscars,,, the people thats in the industry,,,thats i why i heard actors appreciate the people choice awards more because its a true representation of the fans(though sometimes like baseball it just becomes a popularity contest)
best actor should be an award that focuses on previous roles to the latest one just like Tekart says,,,, thats why when i seen "Training Day" i was blown away that denzel was playing this guy which is so out of character from his usual,,, |

What about these recent movies then in which he played a cop? - The Bone Collector 1999 - Fallen 1998 - The Siege 1998 And he played a street smart smooth talker in - He Got Game 1998 This is a repeat for the cheap seats down the back: DENZEL DESERVES MORE THAN HE HAS EVER RECEIVED RECOGNITION FOR. I'm the first person to say so. But he did not deserve it in a head to head with Russell based on their performances in those two movies. Nothing to do with what either one has previously done or been awarded for. As far as your comments are concerned http://www.abcdex.com/new/test/smilies/talktohand.gif |

Personally I think you should have had co-winners with Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes. :winkwink: Just saw their movie the other night and I haven't laughed that hard in quite a while!!:1orglaugh |
for those that are wondering. Halle Berry's role is from Monsters Ball. A very good movie. She also gets naked in it :)
|
