3 Day Trial vs No Trial
 

Whats more effective, using a trial membership period or not having one at all and charging less per month than you would if you had a trial period? For example; 3day trial membership for $3.95 and 1 month for $39.95 OR just offer a 1 month membership for lets say $14.95

With using ccbill, they make it look not so inviting when you go to sign up as they have the Subscription Options look like this

$3.95 - 3 Day Trial/$39.95 every 1 Month(s) (Recurring)

I think that scares the surfer into buying a 3 day trial thinking he will certainly get fucked for the recurring fee. Maybe have it with just a simple 1 month fee would look more appealing.

Anyone have any experience with this???

Never tried it....but I like your thinking.

If the price is kept under $20, i think it would definently get as many signups as a trial/$40 price.

I wonder if I would get more sign ups with just a $14.95 membership than if I even lowered the 3day trial to $2.95 and recur to maybe $29.95. Not sure what I'll do yet, I would like to here more from you guys first!

but don't forget a high price gives the illusion of a quality product...$15 is probably a bit low.. do what wildman insinuates and make it $19.95..

We have seen that trial memberships with lower (but not too low) monthly fees certainly generate more signups than a site with no trial. We recommend to our mnerchants that your join button does not mention the recurring monthly charge, even though the signup page and terms and conditions do. Since all of our buttons, join pages and email receipts are fully customizable, merchants sometimes like to not list the proper disclosure of recurring billing, even though they should. However, they learn rather quickly.

For instance, I've got a client who does free trials but I bet he sells more one month no trials than the free ones. Smart marketing on his part, it's all laid out in black and white in front of the customer's face.

Any time you don't disclose you run a higher cb ratio.

So you can make it on the front side or pay it back on the back side in many cases.

From my experience, if you set it under $20 it seems to cheap and people will think your sites crappy. As far as the trial dilema,. it all depends on what kind of traffic your dealing with. Some traffic sources will do the trial and convert well, other places will take the trial and convert at like 5% which sux. If your tour is a good tease, you won't need a trial, but I wouldn't go higher than $29.95 a month, seems it's a magic number.
