Oh, are our feelings hurt?

Well, apparently you don't think Halle Berry is entitled to feel how she feels. Why should you expect more?

I thought her acceptance (not even a speech, really) was about as spontaneous and real and human a thing as I've seen in years, and I'm sorry you find it so threatening.

I was pulling for Russell Crowe, but I'm not unhappy with Denzel's Oscar. His was a great performance. I just don't think it was as great an accomplishment as Crowe's.

kmanrox 03-25-2002 12:15 AM

Oh, please, don't ever express a feeling so deep and genuine that you might appear foolish. You must be fun to have sex with. NOT!

Rocky 03-25-2002 12:28 AM

props all around to Sidney, Halle and Denzel

it was a looooonnggg time coming

Poitier is Oscar material for all of his films

Berry should have won last time for her role in Dorothy Dandridge

and Washington is straight up golden in all his roles

i like Ron Howard but i was hoping that Altman would pick up best director

also a great night for Arthur Hiller who is one of the nicest people i've met in the biz and deserved to be honored for the humanitarian award

and poor Randy Newman having to wait for his 16th nomination before picking up the prize...talk about endurance

it was an emotional, entertaining and unforgettable evening
:thumbsup

eroswebmaster 03-25-2002 12:32 AM

I have not seen Denzel's movie or Halle's yet...I stress yet.

I have heard nothing but rave reviews regarding Halle's performance and based on that I can see her winning the Oscar.

However I have not heard a single thing about Training Day and hope (and yes even Denzel implied it) that this Oscar was not a token oscar.

I mean really what are the odds of two african american actors breaking barriers on the same night?

But good for them...Denzels even if not for Training Day was well deserved for his extensive and impressive library of work....shit to this day Glory is a favorite movie and I have to choke back the tears during the whipping scene.

But more importantly...I'm damn glad they finally gave one to Randy Newman...shit the man was the Susan Lucci of the Oscars...LOL

He should get a life time achievement award just based on how many shows he's showed up for...LOL

[Labret] 03-25-2002 12:35 AM

Denzel and Berry are a fucking joke.

The Oscars mean about as much to me as 18 year old girls opinions on politics.

What a load of shit, I cant believe really use it as a measure of a good movie. Fucking cattle.

Everyone should know that the whole Oscar process has its flaws, but anyone who saw Monter's Ball should have no doubt Berry deserved an Oscar for it. It was a riveting and mesmerizing performance, and Billy Bob Thornton wasn't half bad, either.

bhutocracy 03-25-2002 12:41 AM

crowe should have got it.. bah.

Rocky 03-25-2002 12:58 AM

who's going to be eating crowe tonight?

labret makin good points :)

nocostporn 03-25-2002 01:37 AM

Halle Barry is half-white so yeah she was the first african american woman to win :thumbsup ...go back to Kentucky you farmer :)

TheSpaceBulldog 03-25-2002 01:42 AM

Berry sucked. I was yelling "Get off the stage bitch!" She ruined the show.

Nedder 03-25-2002 01:44 AM

ya, Halle Berry up there as the forerunner for all those who will come after her, what a joke.

I mean she's hot and has nice tits, but I have no respect for her after she pulled that hit and run in L.A. a few years back.

Nz

bhutocracy 03-25-2002 01:49 AM

i would have chosen wil smith over denzel anyway..... maybe..

armen 03-25-2002 01:55 AM

Amen, Nedder =]

She IS amazingly hot (most Oreos are), and as Swordfish taught us, she has a pretty good rack. I thought, however, it was very interesting to hear her interview right before the Oscars with Barbara Walters claiming how she got into the acting biz because of her desire to make lots of money, and not for the sake of fame, respect of peers, or any other milestones most professionals make. I respect her honesty, but I was quickly disappointed by her teary acceptance speech, whereas she quickly jumped on the 'African-American-actors-never-recognized' bandwagon. To top it all off, we should never forget her awful judgment that night in LA.

My $.02 :)

Well...if that's your opinion...fine...you're free to speak it.

However, look at it from this perspective...

She's the first BLACK female actor to receive the award. She probably didn't even expect to win, considering the other nominess...so she was caught a bit off guard.

IMO, let's get rid of those phucks who just HAVE to thank every body who worked on the film. Shit, I wanna hear more of the boom mic operators get some props for the hard work they do! LOL

Then I guess you won't be watching it ever again will you?

digi 03-25-2002 02:07 AM

Im just happy russel didnt win. He didnt deserve an oscar for gladiator and he didnt deserve one now. He is a mediocre actor that is fortunate (or smart) enough to do characters and movies that people will enjoy.

mika 03-25-2002 02:07 AM

Did my favorite actor Steven Seagal win an Oscar?

yeah an oscar for his performance in gladiator is a bit much.. but he's certainly not mediocre.. the insider and romper stomper were both excellent.. he did a great job in a beautiful mind.. sure it's a role thats screams "watch me give a performance" but he was totally engrossing.. far more so than denzel.. denzel's pretty fucking b-grade IMHO.. sure he's done some really GOOD SHIT.. but sooo much b-grade stuff too.. i hesitate to say he's the same character in all his roles.. but you do get that feeling.. there are never that many moments when you forget its DEN-ZEL acting out a character... i guess also because of some of the roles he's chosen.. and his sheer body of work.. but he does the same as russel.. he chooses the obvious crowd pleasers.. hurricane et al... at least wil smith actually had a stab at something that would be considered out of cast for him. (ie acting)

They have the best acting skills on earth.

Right ;-)

Now we're going to have to listen to this "African American" shit for the next month. Somehow I doubt Halle Berry was born in fucking Somalia.

She is photogenic though. I remember when she was on the cover of Maxim wearing a "Hottie" shirt. Damn, that was a nice picture.

I've never seen anything so FAKE!

Anyone here who endured that appaling puke-fest needs their goddamn head read!

Za Ha 03-25-2002 05:47 AM

Denzel Washington was shit in Training Day! That was the easiest role to play. I tough black guy. Wow soooo fuckin hard!! I see people like that in my neighbourhood and they dont even act.
Sean Penn should of won for I Am Sam. Now that is hard to do...

I dunno about Hally but that was rigged too.... Stupid Acadamy!! :feels-hot :feels-hot They will soon give out Oscars to the people that they feel sorry for.... Oh give it to Denzel cause he is black... FUCK THAT. It should be fair and last night wasnt for sure!!!!!!

My fuckin :2 cents:

Bruce Willis is my personal god.. i EVEN watched mercury rising.. i think he should win an oscar for "best actor at playing the exact same character in the most amount of movies" or "only actor other than travolta able to star alongside samuel L jackson and still look cool"

ihateastro 03-25-2002 06:55 AM

Wow.. my first post on the board and it's about something my girl and I got into a scrap about last night.

No way on god's green earth Denzel deserved that award over Crowe. I fucking HATE Crowe but he was better in BM than Denzel in TD. Word.

As for Halle... I haven't seen her movie so no idea if she deserved the award, but I am getting more than tired of this 'my race won' bullshit. Who cares what color you are? If you can act and you're better than the rest, you usually win. Minus the sympathy vots of course.

Still doesn't explain how Kid Rock goes from being a pimp porking Pam Anderson when 2-3 years ago he was just some lanky fuck spinning 12" for MTV at their New Year's party for extra coin. (like this has fuck all to do with anything, but it just shows how strange shit happens all the time. Denzel wins. Halle looses her mind on stage. Kid Rock nails a crack junkie.

LoveAsianChicks 03-25-2002 07:29 AM

Halle Berry - Is very hot. Not many black girls do anything for me, but Halle is smoking. Loved her since X-men.

Denzel Washington - Is a very skilled actor. I'm glad to see him get an award.

I just don't like how color is an issue.
Awards should be given out based on their acting and not on color. Its a shame people need look at it that way.

RedShoe 03-25-2002 08:23 AM

Damn, I started reading these, and I started getting angry all over again...

Look, Halle Berry only does one thing well, and that's "hit and run" (know what I mean)
And for you race players, If her birth mother is white, doesn't that make her mulatto? So technically she's not the first african-american female to win for best actress.

Denzel deserved it.
Opie did as well.

Robert Altman is a hack, (and you know it!)

These awards shows make me sick, but every year I'm glued to the screen with my ulcer medicine at hand, screaming at what an outrage the whole ceremony is.

Look, I'm getting all worked up again. I hate the oscars, I can't believe so many people love this movie crap!!

I can't believe so many people actually think Halle Berry is hot.
*blink*

And incedently, I'd love to see a caucasian win an oscer and not get shot down for saying, "This award is for every white actor that ever busted their ass to get where they are".

As for Denzel.. Love his movies, and he seems like a great guy, but no way did he deserve that over Crowes performance.
THAT was truly great.

Jason.

Was definately a token gesture

Nedder 03-25-2002 11:57 AM

I thought another entertaining part of the night was when Poitier goes up there as the legend of black acting that he is (and I won't deny that, I think he's great)....and then starts thanking all the white directors and gives a shout out to his white wife!!

Way to go Sidney!

Clearly, by the time she got up to the Oscar platform, making money was not all that was on her mind. Blacks (I won't say "African-Americans" because not all Black actors are Americans) have not had an easy time of it in Hollywood, and anyone who thinks otherwise hasn't looked into it. Paul Robeson and Sidney Poitier are actors who never got the recognition they deserved: beloved by the public and shunned as far as industry recognition.

And if you are referring to her auto accident, if good judgment were a qualification, lots of white actors shouldn't be eligible for an Oscar. Jack Nicholson comes to mind.
