Death Penalty - yes or no?

I know we have people from all over the world here, and I know there are countries out there that do not allow the death penalty under any circumstance, but I do not know what the people feel.

So, do you feel that the death penalty should ever be applied? If so, is there a minimum age that a criminal should be before it is applied?

kmanrox 03-24-2002 07:33 PM

fry them all

mika 03-24-2002 07:35 PM

I saw a list of countries that have AND actually use death penalties

But my opinion,.. hmm

First torture these fucks. Then strap 'em up and pull the switch. I'm also for a bullet to the head but something like a russian roulette style. Six guys take a turn with a gun to the head of the scum with one bullet. The last gun should be fully loaded.

Plus we should all be allowed to watch on cable tv.

Child molesters(this includes those Catholic scum priests), rapists etc etc. Kill 'm all and let God sort'em out!

Shouldn't be a death penalty in my opinion. And BTW- Death penalty cases cost MORE than simple incarceration.

Do you know how much it costs to keep one man in prison for a year? It's not pretty.

more firing squads needed...:ak47:

Sexymail 03-24-2002 08:22 PM

child molesters and sponsors that rip off people are the only ones that should be put to death!

I have a fundamental "eye for an eye" belief in the justice of the death penalty for murder. However, the example of Illinois where MORE THAN HALF those on death row were proved by DNA analysis to be innocent brought me to the point of believing we should do what they did in Illinois: put the death penalty on hold until a more just and credible system can be created. Right now, if someone is convicted of a murder they didn't do in front of a crowd of witnesses or on video tape, I have to wonder if they are really guilty, and this is an uneasy feeling.

Proponents should also address the fact that those states which enforce the death penalty most vigorously have very little to show for it in terms of reduced murder rate. In fact, murderers seem to be lining up to be excecuted in those states which enforce the death penalty most fiercely.

Hot Tropical Babes 03-24-2002 08:44 PM

I am for it. I think we would have a hell of a lot less crime. When the consequences are high stakes, people think twice before they do the crime. Here in Florida, they got rid of old "sparky" (electric chair) due to the last person they fried got a nose bleed. Well what about his victoms, I bet they had a hell of a lot more inflictions than a nose bleed. Its sickening that a woman can drown her children and then live with three squares a day and the love and support of her husband. Now I think if the husband would of done it, he would be looking at the end of the needle or life in prison by now. This world is so fucked up. I enjoyed seeing Timothy McVeigh get the needle. Too bad he couldnt suffer as the people he killed and their familes did.
I dont understand why people make execution so costly and then drag it out for years. Hell ,, what does a simple bullet cost? vs. what does it cost to maintain a cold blooded killer for life?

eru 03-24-2002 08:46 PM

Of course we should keep the death penalty. I believe we are way too lenient with it though. For the most part, USA uses the lethal injection. This method of death is totally painless for the person it is given to due to the fact that they are put under before the injection is given. Serial killers should not die like this. We should delve into their minds with intense days-long interrogations and discover their darkest fears and use these fears to kill them.

I know this sounds kind of like something out of a science-fiction novel, but I think it could work. Another intresting thing to do I did read in a sci-fi novel (Chung Kuo series by David Wingrove) is to enforce a very unique type of death penalty: If someone is found guilty of murder, then that person and all of his family to the third generation will be killed. I forgot how though!

Gemini 03-24-2002 09:47 PM

I'd tell you to try harder Kman but it would strain your peanut sized brain in that little head you have. ;-) Better people have tried and can't get a rise from me.

40 yrs at 30k per is 1.2m versus average 3m for the death penalty. Now take into consideration that death lets them OUT of any punishment beyond the sweat they lose while waiting. A nice 6x8 23 hours per day x 40 yrs. Do the math.

Oh and tree hugging? Please! lmao Men are tree huggers not woman. And no I don't attend all those save the whale things either. In fact I know very little about that sort of thing. I took engineering in college and thankfully they didn't insist on that sort of thing. lol What did YOU major in? Keg parties or attempting sex 101?

But seriously why give them the easy out? Make them REALLY suffer for life plus ten years. Back in the olden days they wouldn't even give the body to the family. They were buried inside the prison. So even their family didn't get closure. Most true killers are sick in the head so the death threat to them is nothing. How can that deter someone already a mental case?

Joe Blow 03-24-2002 09:50 PM

I say we should apply the death penalty Taliban style... a soccer field, hundreds of spectators, an automatic rifle and a party atmosphere...

At least they had the guts to kill their citizens out in the open instead of behind closed doors.

Kimmykim 03-24-2002 09:51 PM

Who needs the death penalty? If the US instituted the same sort of punishments as some middle eastern countries, there wouldn't be three strikes since no one would have any hands to strike with...

Death penalty for ALL crimes...ESPECIALLY jay-walking!

jennycards 03-24-2002 11:19 PM

The death penalty is the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment.

It violates the right to life.

It is irrevocable and can be inflicted on the innocent. It has never been shown to deter crime more effectively than other punishments.

AFGHANISTAN, BAHAMAS, BELARUS, BURUNDI, CHINA, CONGO (Democratic Republic), CUBA, EGYPT, GUATEMALA, IRAN, IRAQ, JAPAN, JORDAN, KUWAIT, MALAYSIA, PAKISTAN, PHILIPPINES, QATAR, SAUDI ARABIA, SINGAPORE, SOMALIA, TAIWAN, THAILAND, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, UZBEKISTAN, VIET NAM, YEMEN

Those are the countries, according to Amnesty International, that executed people in the year 2000. It is interesting to see the USA (& Japan) in that list of third world hell holes.

LiveDose 03-24-2002 11:43 PM

Jenny IT DETERS THAT INDIVIDUAL from every commiting a crime again. Why do we always have to talk about detering other people??? That isn't the point. If someone is a killer and you off them, I guarantee you they will never ever kill anyone again.

bunky 03-24-2002 11:55 PM

I say if u know they are gulity paint the fuckers up like 10 pointed deers and make em run through 500+ acres of woods during hunting seasons... make it sporty

my dad likes the idea of keeping them for organ donors. like an organ farm. i like that idea too, but i dont think anyone would actually want a kidney from a rapist or a murderer.
personally, i figure if you break a law, you deserve to be punished. i used to be opposed to the idea of "an eye for an eye" but as i grow older... it's more like an eye, ear... and a few limbs for an eye. if someone ever harmed one of my loved ones... i just hope i never find out who it was.
torture is the way to go.
slow, deliberate and extremely painful.
people who do not respect life, deserve no respect in return.
and that woman, the one in texas... i hope god has a special place for her. :BangBang: :feels-hot
i cant really put all of my feelings into words about this whole topic.

i do think however, that the lord of the rings should have gotten the award for the best picture.

But how can you KNOW it? There are so many people found guilty in court and finally released from death row because they wer NOT guilty.
And only god knows how many innocent people have been killed on the e-chair.
(funny enough to write about "god" on this board)

kmanrox 03-25-2002 12:04 AM

hey otto, id love to see what you'd say if you found your sister and mother raped and killed and tortured, and they found the guy with lots of evidence....

youd prolly kill him yourself, so sit down, shut up, and GO FUCK YOURSELF

baddog 03-25-2002 12:05 AM

I am not aware of anyone that claims the death penalty is there as a deterrent. I believe it falls more appropriately under the classification of punishment.

The only people I hear discussing the death penalty as a deterrent, are those against it. they always say it is not a deterrent. Well, that is not really the purpose. There is no deterrent to crime, as long as there are webmasters, sponsors, Soviets, Republicans, Catholic priests, cops and Al Queda there will be crime. There is nothing that will deter any of them.

I have had an idea for an alternative to the death penalty for a long time. My idea would be to turn death row into a parts house for organ transplants. As science has progressed, my idea has gained additional benefits. The main one would be mandatory DNA testing which could assist in filtering through those wrongfully accused.

This idea is nothing better than what the Nazis did when they performed "medical research" in the concentration camps. And they were also CONVINCED about the guilt of the Jews. They thought to KNOW it.
