tASSy Needs Gift Ideas For Her Baby Brothers - HELP!

hey everyone, thought i'd pose this question to the board as this is a pretty male-dominated industry. i have 2 baby brothers, ages 13 1/2 and just turned 16 - both are fairly studious and a tad nerdy but super smart (the older one is a genius, literally).

i haven't seen either of them for a number of years now and the last i knew of them they were into computers, books, performing in school plays, playing music (classical piano, guitar, and flute), and legos. this year i plan on getting them something to have sent to their home for christmas, but i have NO idea what to get them!

so GFY, what do you get a teenage boy who probably doesn't know how to drive yet, doesn't have many social friends, isn't allowed to watch TV or play video games, and isn't really into sports? what's the hot thing for boys this year? and no, i can't get them an xbox360, no video games allowed in their home.

i don't know their hobbies and but i'm trying to avoid getting them gift certificates to amazon.com as that seems soooo generic. help me!

Maxy 11-28-2005 02:40 PM

Ipod?

You're all hot and porny etc., and the boys can't get video games?

but why tassy?

I have a little sister and I can't imagine goin more than a few weeks without seeing her. I hate it when she goes away for summer camp.

sandman! 11-28-2005 02:42 PM

fleshlights!

Libertine 11-28-2005 02:44 PM

Porn. Teen boys love porn. Definitely porn.

Alternatively, you can give them something electronic and utterly useless but fun. All the better if it is legally classified as a WMD.

Pete-KT 11-28-2005 02:44 PM

maybe ipods, or remote control cars for the younger one, maybe some books to read

seeric 11-28-2005 02:48 PM

music compsoing software. look at Acid Pro 5 and some other proggies like Fruity Loops.

Traktor and Reason are other ones. If they are genius and already musical, they may already know where to find the um "free" versions so you may want to do some poking and prodding to see if they are into it, and or already have the programs.

JD 11-28-2005 02:50 PM

get'em a fleshlight :winkwink:

tons of good stuff there.

A gift certificate to come and stay with you during the Summer. It sounds like they could use it.

Maxy 11-28-2005 02:50 PM

gross :disgust

sounds like they need to rebel but i think AIREKS idea is great.

emthree 11-28-2005 02:55 PM

Whoa, what's up with your parents?
They're going to make your bros turn out to be criminals one day with all those rules.

I'd get them a PSP, it's mobile and it serves as a video device, gaming device, and a webbrowser if they hack it up (which they might enjoy doing). I know you said no video games allowed, but let them live. Maybe this one will slip through the cracks with the parents.

or you could just get them both a fairly nice desktop computer (everyone needs a nice computer, they'd love you long time)
Might as well give them a push start to this industry :D haha jk.

xNetworx 11-28-2005 02:55 PM

They are not allowed to watch TV or play Video Games? :helpme

My suggestion is to buy them a weapon to defend themseleves from the guys that are most definately picking on them. Seriously, sadly enough most kids are raised on TV and socializing in this country involves watching Sports, MTV etc. Are your parents Mormon?

I can make it happen. j/k. ;)

emthree 11-28-2005 02:58 PM

If you really love them, and they live in a nice weathered area...
You should also concider a GAS RC. Let them have some out door fun, they will be the talk of the block. Maybe make a few new friends too.

I have a friend that has a little brother like what you described. Kinda nerdy and can't watch tv. I know that he is into trading cards. As childesh as it seems, he is 12 might I add. I think they are yu gi oh. or something like that. He had a whole case of them. In a custom holder, was like basball card books, where the plastic shows both sides of the cards. Then a nice custom cover of some the sets of them. Over 250 i know. Every time we see him he allways wants to show us whats new.

He also likes to listen to music, last year we (my friend and a few other friends) chipped in and bought him a really nice piano. The keyboard board ones not a real wood full size one. But like a small keyboard ones, really nice and now he will ask some of us to listen to him play it. They are a bit spendy but he loved it and there was 8 of us that chipped in so it wasnt to bad.

This year we are planning on a ipod but filling it up with things he likes Also we bought the collectors edition of harry potter and another series like it.

Hope that helps.

Stop treating the kid like a baby.
He's old enough to make babies, and he's old enough to get married and have a family in some places.

thanks a1r3k! this is exactly the kind of suggestion i needed - i think acid might be a good start for my older (younger) brother, now to figure out what the youngest one might like. thanks!

pornguy 11-28-2005 04:24 PM

If they like to read, then an on going subscription to a book of the month club or something like that is nice. Also as mentioned, the RC cars can be fun. But I would think more along the lines of High tech. maybe a tablet pc or something.

Young 11-28-2005 04:25 PM

i think its cute how tASSy refers to herself in the third person.

you are so fucking hot.

Get them an ipod video. let them break the rules a little. it will be good for storage too.

if they are genius's they may know where to get software, if you catch my drift. get someone to go on their computers and see if they have it installed. if they know where to get the um "free" hin hint versions, then it would suck to spend your money on something that they already have.

on a side note, more advanced programs like Pro Tools which is a great tool for a composer, you can't have a cracked version because it comes with hardware that you need to use the software with. :thumbsup

At 12??? Dont know about that, but my suggestions where for the 13 year old.

I dont do that with my kids. Hell my son who is 7 played call of duty 2 with me for the past few days. Way different then how I would raise my kids. His parrents are really stricked also. They are big time church goers as I call them. They don't watch tv or have a tv cause of all the shit you see. swearing, violence, sexual. His parrents yelled at me for saying damn in his house. They go to sunday church and school, bible school instead of public, every day the kids are into something with the church. Just not me.

But thats the way they are. My friend grew up the same way but when he turned 18 moved out and enjoyed everything he missed growing up.

unfortunately i don't/won't have access to their computer(s) before the holiday, i'm not even sure what kind they have, or if they share with my parents. i want to surprise them - i doubt they've stolen the software online yet, i'll probably be buying at least acid for the older one. :)
