Single letter domains to go on sale

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051128/...letter_domains

What a silly argument. Theres obviously some inside deal to sell them for top dollar because theres no "need" for them..

It would be like winning a lottery.

Maxy 11-28-2005 01:42 PM

Fuck. It would be aweomse to own one.

Since when we're people not allowed to have one letter domains? One of the companies that got bought out early on by PayPal was x.com. Infact if you go there now you can see that it redirects to PayPal.

Brujah 11-28-2005 01:47 PM

How do you think they'll release the names ? I'm thinking Snapnames will handle it.

Single-letter names under ".com," ".net" and ".org" were set aside in 1993 as engineers grew concerned about their ability to meet the expected explosion in demand for domain names. They weren't sure then whether a single database of names could hold millions ? more than 40 million in the case of ".com" today.

Six single-letter names already claimed at the time ? "q.com," "x.com, "z.com," "i.net," "q.net," and "x.org" ? were allowed to keep their names for the time being.

pornguy 11-28-2005 02:03 PM

I want S.com

XPays 11-28-2005 02:03 PM

we are seeing 2 character domains come up in the http://IPalert.com PDDW. 8u.net is the most recent. it may be difficult to acquire the 1 character domains but you can still score new killer domains daily.

Brujah 11-28-2005 02:18 PM

8u.net is already gone. At http://www.clickmojo.com/ you could have also seen 7s.net

It dropped a few days ago. It's backordered, in a closed auction. You don't consider that already gone ? I do.

ah- yes to me it's gone gone when the auction is over. i have a bid in on it so it's still alive.

Brujah 11-28-2005 02:33 PM

Here are some really great short domains too. Much of the time you can get better deals from owners (depending on the owner) than in a highly competitive auction.

Short High-Quality Domains

If those single letter ones get released we have no chance to pick them up.

Overstock.com = o.com

yahoo.com = y.com

google.com = g.com

They will end up with companies like that ASAP
