great album :thumbsup

The album cover is symbolic for the end of the relationship between Pink Floyd and Syd Barret. Syd Barret, the founder of Pink Floyd left the band after he went insane. The guy is on fire, symbolizing Pink Floyd getting hurt by Syd, and the handshake symbolizes the relationship between the band and him. The whole album, Wish You Were Here is the band mourning the loss of their friend and founder. It works on two levels, they wish he was there in terms of his senses, and also physically with the band.

:pimp :thumbsup

I watched a doco on Syd Barret shame he went to far with the drugs and coudent come back but Pink Floyd would have never been who they where if they didnt toss him.

maybe you know the story about this song.Originaly it wasn't palnned to be recorded.During recording in studio there was a guy with tooth-brush all day watching them working. They didn't recognize Syd as he was fucking fat.Some1 told them - jesus its Syd Barret - then Roger wrote this song and added to album.

Yeah I've read that in a david gilmour interview, Syd is still a recluse and doesn't talk to anyone but his sister. The guys dedicated their LiveAid performance to him before going into Wish you were here.

jacked 11-28-2005 03:45 PM

definately a weird cover reminds me of the rage against the machine album cover

r-c-e 11-28-2005 07:36 PM

I put on Meddle last night for the first time in years. Still as good as ever.

Moraxian 11-28-2005 07:58 PM

Wish You Were Here has always been one of my favorite albums, and probably my favorite Pink Floyd album. I was at their show at RFK stadium in 1994, they came out and after playing Astronomy Domine they played a set of their newer material (Divison Bell, Momentary Lapse of Reason) and concluded with that set with "One of These Days" from Meddle.

They took a break, and then the second set started with "Shine on You Crazy Diamond"...just awesome to hear those notes starting to play in complete darkness, and each note turning on a single light pointing to the stage...wow.

Spunky 11-28-2005 08:26 PM

Memories..I don't know how many doobs I blazed listening to them
