Church and state...

This is what happens when Religeon comes in.

Fuck separation of church and state, it seems pretty clear the church is pressing politics and influencing policy.

Typical typical.

Its shit like that that bothers me.

Yeah, that pesky first amendment always gets in the way.

XxXotic 11-27-2005 10:52 PM

seperation of church and state only means the government won't choose one religion over any other as a "national religion", nothing more

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 11-27-2005 10:52 PM

Well the Church is not taxed and rightly so under conditions that supposedly that it require the church stay out of state and government politics and policies.

Clearly churches as of late have been going above beyond thier realm of giving people somthing to believe in, they wanna make the rules in America.
Well maybe I am wrong but I never understood why Churches insist on speaking out about things that involve government policy or state policy.

Seems that asking people to go one way or another over a matter that stimies science and politics is a little beyond there place.

Guess I am wrong as usual.

the church can discuss anything that pertains to religious beliefs, ie gay marriage, abortion and stem cell research. you win the prize!

Baal 11-27-2005 10:59 PM

It's funny (not) how the arguments against stem cell research assume that a baby must be sacrificed to get stem cells. Newborn baby umbilical cords are used to get those same cells, and those (cut umbilical cords) are normally thrown in the trash.

Sheesh.

Sheesh.

I think the bigger objection would be over the embryonic stem cells.

These are the same guys who are trying to stifle the cure for cervical cancer because "it might encourage teen sex". Yup, thousands of women dying each year is better than the concept that some teenagers might do what they're already gonna do anyways.

The more I look at the so-called 'right to life' movement, the more things become clear: They look at sex as something dirty and terrible, therefore if you engage in it you must be punished. Punished by having unwanted kids as a single parent, punished by diseases and death, punished by every means available.

Just keep in mind that if there is a god, these people are about as fucking far as you're gonna find from that god. There's no place for the hipochristians amongst good, decent people, neither before nor after death. :2 cents:

there has alwasy been a mention about the separation between the church and the state but the line has yet to be made clear on both parties

It is the influencing factor that Churches instigate via patronage/followers.

In a perfect world, churches or religeon oughtah discuss god of course and how to find him, not take the faith's powers in the belief to betray the success of mankind's exhistance in the physical world.

Lets face it, science and progress within our confines are what will ultimately shape our species survival through time. Our collective knowledge, not god will preserve our exhistance.

Afterlife, God, the soul etc plenty nuff time for that when we are all dead and plenty nuff time to believe in such while living but none of that is relevant when understanding the nature of life and our physical world.

PS: yes I just said that and I invented god.

I think the whole point of the seperation was to keep the Churches from having to pay taxes, and actually had little to do with them staying out of Gov't affairs.

All religion is is a tool used to control the masses, and what better way to strengthen that tool than to run the Gov't as well.

Fuck Religion and religious people, bunch of weak minded people coming together, there is a reason why the analogy "Shepard and his Sheep" is used so much in religion...

Christianity is by far the worse of all religions, those fucking idiots can't even follow their own stupid rules, I mean how fucking stupid is that, to believe in something, but do exactly the opposite of what that something tells you to do... it's kind of hilarious.

je_rome 02-15-2006 07:48 PM

The separation of Church and State shall be inviolable.

Separation of church and state means no organic union of the two, but it does permit interaction. The state should not use its authority to promote particular religious beliefs (including atheism), nor should it require prayer or worship in the public schools, but it should leave students free to practice their own religious convictions. We believe that the state should not attempt to control the church, nor should the church seek to dominate the state.

Jace 02-15-2006 07:50 PM

um...where ANYWHERE does it state ANYTHING about seperation of church and state?

Jace 02-15-2006 07:51 PM

read up a little, the church and state shit is not anywhere in any of our founding documents...it is an ideal that people want to follow

Quote:

Anytime religion is mentioned within the confines of government today people cry, "Separation of Church and State". Many people think this statement appears in the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution and therefore must be strictly enforced. However, the words: "separation", "church", and "state" do not even appear in the first amendment. The first amendment reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." The statement about a wall of separation between church and state was made in a letter on January 1, 1802, by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptist Association of Connecticut. The congregation heard a widespread rumor that the Congregationalists, another denomination, were to become the national religion. This was very alarming to people who knew about religious persecution in England by the state established church. Jefferson made it clear in his letter to the Danbury Congregation that the separation was to be that government would not establish a national religion or dictate to men how to worship God. Jefferson's letter from which the phrase "separation of church and state" was taken affirmed first amendment rights. Jefferson wrote:

I contemplate with solemn reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church and State. (1)
